The Children's Emergency Department is a very busy department treating and caring for infants, children and young people aged 0-15 years of age.

We have a newly built children's Emergency Department. We have increased our nursing workforce by recruiting a Paediatric Matron, Senior team of nurses and additional ACP and ENP's as well as a designated Practice Educators for staff within CED to help support and develop new skills along their journey.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will work according to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and relevant professional guidelines and be accountable for their own professional actions.

  • The post holder must use up to date knowledge and evidence to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate care, communicate findings, influence changes, and promote health and best practice
  • The post holder must achieve and maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training, develop, and maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the area of clinical practice
  • The post holder must respond to patients, relative and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
  • The post holder will contribute to the development of service and quality improvement initiatives within a collaborative framework to enhance patient experience and outcome and ensure standards of care are monitored and maintained at the highest level required with medical staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team both verbally and written
  • Be conversant with and adhere to all Trust policies, procedures and systems for safeguarding including the assessment of Mental Capacity, the process for requests for Deprivation of Liberty Standards (DOLS) and demonstration of the principles of Prevent (counter terrorism awareness)
  • Abide by and ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Children's/ Paediatric Nurse on the NMC register

Desirable

  • Health care management / leadership qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
  • Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
  • Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
  • Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
  • Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
  • Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department
  • Experience in learning from incidents/complaints and supporting changes in practice.
