The Medical Electronics Technician is responsible for:
• undertaking repairs, performance verification, acceptance testing, planed preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing on a wide variety of medical devices.
The post holder will contribute to achieving the following trust aims:
• staff shall be assured that equipment will be available to meet clinical need.
• equipment will be properly maintained and managed.
• no member of staff shall be obliged to assess, treat or monitor a patient with a medical device that s/he is not competent to use.
The post holder will be based at the Royal Free hospital. However they will be expected to attend any site to which the trust offers a service. They will also be expect to rotate to the equipment library and other satellite sites where they may be based for an extended period

We require a technician to join our team which manages a broad range of complex medical equipment.
Your duties would include:
- Undertaking repairs, performance verification testing, acceptance testing, planned preventative maintenance and electrical safety testing on a wide variety of medical devices.
-Training nursing & other staff in use of medical equipment and devices, keeping training records.
- Maintenance, acceptance testing service & repair on medical equipment for specialist areas.
- Commissioning new equipment via the procurement pathway - including running small tender exercises.
- Organising & updating service, operation and instruction manuals for equipment
Ability to share knowledge and ask for assistance as required.
The Medical Electronics team at the Royal Free London is responsible for the efficient and cost-effective management of a wide range of medical equipment: this may be by in-house service and repair or by the use of specific service contracts. The team works at a number of sites, but its base is our purpose built workshop at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead (but travel to our other hospital sites will be required)
This job description is designed to identify principal responsibilities only. The post holder is required to be flexible in developing the role in accordance with changes in RFL management agenda and strategic/ operational priorities agenda. This profile will therefore be subject to on-going review and discussion between the post holder and line manager.

• To contribute to the delivery of a cost efficient and responsive equipment management service for the trust.
• To help the trust achieve the aims of its equipment management policy.
• To respond to requests regarding medical equipment, via the bleep, telephone or email.
• To have responsibility for undertaking safety checks on equipment, in accordance with the relevant safety standards and to be familiar with relevant British, European and other standards, guidelines and codes of practice that might apply.
• To participate in the running of ‘MOT clinics’ where equipment based in patients home is brought for servicing.
• To ensure that regular calibration and quality assurance checks are completed and recorded as required.
• To undertake planned, preventative maintenance, first line maintenance and supervise manufacturers' service contracts.
• To undertake active planning of servicing, being mindful of the anticipated clinical demand for equipment.
