Job summary

Come and join our Outpatient Physiotherapy team in the Solihull Community MSK Service! We believe now is an exciting time to be part of a Community MSK Service, with multiple opportunities to provide outstanding and individualised care to patients within the community in which they live. We are a friendly and welcoming team and are passionate about providing high quality care through Evidence Based learning. In addition, we believe in maximising the potential of each member of the team based on their individual needs, and alongside National agendas such as FCP.

The role will involve assessing and treating self-referred and GP referred patients in some of our 8 clinics across the borough, supervising junior staff and students, with opportunities to lead classes and contributing to service development initiatives. We treat adults and some paediatric patients.

In the current challenging healthcare environment, the ideal candidate will be flexible and adaptable, with excellent communication skills, providing mainly face to face appointments.

As part of our service, we run a 'Breaking Down Barriers to Exercise' service, an OA Knee off-loader brace clinic, Pilates classes, ESCAPE Pain for Knees and Hips, Back Class, injection clinics and have access to ultrasound-guided injection clinics. We are committed to working with local partners to promote physical activity and address the specific health inequalities within the population that we serve.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

To assist with supervision, education and co-ordination of generic therapy assistants, and junior therapy staff.

Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc or Equivalent in Physiotherapy
  • HCPC Registered
  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • MSK Work Based Training
  • Evidence of on-going CPD

Desirable

  • MCSP
  • Accredited MSK Training
  • Accredited Specialist Training (Acupuncture / APPI )

Experience

Essential

  • NHS experience
  • Band 5 rotations to include MSK Outpatients
  • Evidence of participating delivering training

Desirable

  • Evidence of Mentoring
  • Supervision of Students
  • Clinical and/or operation audits
  • Delivering class based treatments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UHB Trust initiatives
  • Rotational experience of other Physiotherapy specialities eg. Orthopaedics, neuro.
  • Evidence of a service development project

Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Adaptable communication skills
  • Accurate and legible note taking
  • Competent IT skills
  • An ability to prioritise and organise own workload
  • An ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing/emotional situations

Desirable

  • Presentation/Teaching skill
  • Access to a vehicle that can be used for business purpose and hold a full and valid driving licence.
