UHB are seeking an enthusiastic Neonatal Critical Care nurse to join their busy Neonatal service, 32 cots in a Level 3 unit at Heartlands hospital and 12 cots in a Level 1 unit at Good Hope Hospital.
We are keen to recruit an experienced nurse who is looking to develop their professional leadership and clinical skills within Neonatology. University Hospitals Birmingham have a large, busy service ran by a friendly, dynamic, talented team of professionals; this includes over 120 specialised staff within the nursing team who deliver high quality, compassionate care to the local community and beyond. We strive to provide a positive patient experience in a safe environment for all of our babies and families and we actively promote a family integrated approach in the delivery of care.
We have an established multi-disciplinary team that provide care to pre term and term infants and their families. We operate a 24 hour, 7 day a week shift pattern and staff are required to work across sites. Main duties, tasks & skills required
As a band 6 Neonatal Nurse at UHB you will form part of an established nursing team, you will act as a senior, positive role model for your colleagues, demonstrate clinical competence and effective leadership skills. You will be responsible for coordinating shifts, allocating duties to junior staff members and ensuring patient safety is prioritised by communicating effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. The Band 6 nurse is required to deputise for the band 7 Lead Nurse, ensuring that clinical standards are maintained and that trust policies and procedures are adhered to. You will be required to deliver individualised, holistic care to a diverse population, acknowledging the needs of the infant and family which requires skilled communication. Infants can enter via a variety of pathways and they will all have different levels of clinical need. As a Band 6 you will be required to utilise your assessment skills to assess, monitor and prioritise patient care. We expect all of our nurses to promote a positive attitude and motivate staff members to deliver compassionate care whilst developing themselves professionally. When you join the team, you will be assigned a manager, and a clinical educator, you will be given a period of supernumerary time and the opportunity to participate in local and trust wide training. You will be given the chance to attend Neonatal network study days, leadership and management modules.

Essential
- Registered Child Branch Nurse, Adult Nurse or Midwife on the NMC register
- Qualification in speciality. Neonatal Critical Care/ Intensive Care

- Health care management / leadership qualification
Experience
Essential
- Substantial post registration experience working in a Neonatal critical care environment delivering family integrated care and supervising / mentoring junior staff
- Evidence of professional /clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical and or managerial training and CPD
- Can demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council ( NMC ) standards for student supervision and assessment
- Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision /education of junior staff
- Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
- Evidence of ability to lead /coordinate a shift /area of department
- Experience in learning from incidents /complaints and supporting changes in practice.
