Job description

Job Title: Pharmacist

Grade: Band 6

Ward/Dept: Pharmacy

Trust: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Highgate Mental Health Unit, N19 5NX

Hours: Monday - Friday 09:00am - 17:15pm

Salary: £20.36 p/h

Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust is largest provider of mental health and substance misuse services to people living within the London boroughs of Camden and Islington. They treat 97% of people in the community and work hard to reduce the need for hospital admissions. The trust has two in-patient facilities at Highgate Mental Health Centre and at St Pancras Hospital.

Would you like to be part of the largest provider for mental health in the UK?

With specialist services, state-of-the-art facilities, strong research links and opportunities to move across the Trust, you can grow your skills and experience, progress your career, and take your knowledge further.

Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust are looking to expand their Pharmacy department, for a new opportunity for a Band 7 Pharmacist.

The pharmacy service supports staff, service users and carers to achieve safe and effective management of medicine.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • To be responsible for the provision and contribute to the development of clinical pharmacy services, in conjunction with the Lead Pharmacists.
  • Ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines in order to maximise benefit and minimise risk to patients, for e.g. complete medication histories and pharmaceutical care plans for new ward admissions.
  • Review of prescriptions (accuracy, legality & potential problems), monitoring of side-effects and identification of significant drug interactions and advising on clinical monitoring.
  • Participate in the dispensary rota in line with departmental requirements and recognised best practice. This will include complex calculations for specific medicine regimes and dispensing to a high specification of accuracy.
  • To be responsible for medicines supply (e.g. ward/community/crisis team stock lists) ensuring appropriate quantities are stored in accordance with the changing clinical needs of each clinical environment to minimise waste and reduce risk.
  • To participate in the Medicines Management audit programme. This includes recommending suitable audit topics, designing, leading on audit, conducting and supporting data collection.

To be successful in applying for this role you will need:

  • Membership with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Experience within Mental Health is essential.
  • Hospital experience, at least one year’s worth of experience is ideal.
  • Suitably qualified candidates with UK Community experience will be considered.
