Provide comprehensive assessment, including detailed physical examination, which involves thorough understanding of patients with complex conditions with a range of cognitive, physiological, social and emotional/mental health problems. Manage a caseload in the specialist Neuro rehab and clinics, which involves complex assessments, treatment and advice for patients and their carers. Co-ordinate the assessment and rehabilitation programmes of people referred to the specialist rehabilitation clinics, linking with other regional services and liaising with local services as needed. Assess, order and provide equipment eg. walking aids, FES (functional electrical stimulation) machines. Ensure equipment safe to use and that those using equipment are safe to do so. Negotiate and set realistic goals with the patient and carers as an independent practitioner and as part of the interdisciplinary team. Dealing sensitively with patients having unrealistic expectations including discussions of poor diagnostic prognosis. Perform home / hospital / Satellite Clinic visits independently or alongside other clinicians.
