Behaviour Teaching Assistant Required, Wigan
Milk Education are working with a primary school in Wigan (WN1) who are seeking a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to work on a one to one basis with a Year 4 child with challenging behaviour. The role of a Behaviour Teaching Assistant will involve keeping the child on task and ensuring that the work they are set is being done to a good standard. You will be providing 1:1 support to a Year 4 child who requires assistance in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their true potential. As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant you will support them in accessing the curriculum in order to help to reduce incidences of internal and external exclusion.
This role will commence as soon as possible and will conitnue until Thursday 28th March initially. The school would like to see the relationship that is built between the Behaviour Teaching Assistant and the child, which in turn will help them decide if you are both the right fit for each other for the role to continue until Easter 2024.
The Behaviour Teaching Assistant will work with this child on a one to one basis and also support them in a whole class group, acting as a:
- Listener
- Facilitator for learning
- Encourager
- Motivator
- Role Model
Specific duties and responsibilities:
- Encourage the inclusion of this pupil with SEMH needs by using positive behaviour management techniques designed to develop the pupils ability to behave appropriately
- Provide specific support to this pupil dependent upon their individual needs and implement strategies to support this pupil with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
- Model, within class, support strategies that will encourage and develop appropriate behaviour in a variety of settings i.e with individuals and group/whole class
- Model group based activities that will develop this pupils problem-solving, listening and social skills
- Work as a mentor (1-1 and in groups) with a view to helping him develop skills that equip him to better manage his behaviour and work constructively with others using a variety of specialised programmes e.g. anger management sessions, circle of friends, social stories, restorative practice
- Plan and facilitate structured games and activities to support pupil to make appropriate choices during unstructured times e.g. on the playground at break times and lunchtime
