Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to join our team of Specialist Bereavement Midwives providing bereavement care to women and their families.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced midwife to provide care, support and practical advice to women and their families following the loss of their baby through late miscarriage, stillbirth, early neonatal death or termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormality within the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal setting.
You will ensure a coordinated approach when providing care and support to women and their families leading to a sensitive, high quality, seamless service. Provision of a high standard of care will be maintained by using up-to-date evidence-based practice and ensuring compliance with national and local guidelines
Working closely alongside the labour ward matron, midwives and medical staff, you will act as a positive role model and educational resource for staff on the physical, psychological and administrative aspects of bereavement care. As an expert resource, you will guide and support midwifery and medical staff caring for bereaved women and their families providing sound professional knowledge and leadership as well as facilitating and leading on training and participating in local Perinatal Mortality reviews for all perinatal losses in the Trust.
  • To be the midwifery lead in the care of women who have experienced poor pregnancy outcome including, stillbirth, termination for abnormality, mid trimester losses and neonatal deaths at Queen Charlotte and Chelsea Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.
  • Liaising with the multidisciplinary team and joint working with the Consultant Obstetricians at allocated clinics.
  • To manage and provide continuity of care and support for women and their families who have experienced fetal loss or the death of their baby in the maternity setting.
  • To facilitate and lead on training and support for nursing, midwifery and medical staff involved in the care of bereaved women and their families.
  • To act as an educational resource for medical, nursing and midwifery staff on physical, psychological and administrative aspects of bereavement care.
  • To act as a clinical specialist providing verbal and written information to bereaved families and to support women and their families who experienced fetal loss.
  • To contribute to multidisciplinary meetings when required in relation to perinatal mortality.
  • To ensure cross site working is developed to deliver equitable care regardless of hospital site for all bereaved women and their families.
