About the Role

This role presents a fantastic opportunity to work on renewable energy projects, and to forge a career with a company leading the energy revolution. At RWE you will have a dynamic job where relationship building, hands-on decision making and progression will be an integral part of your daily work.

In this role you will oversee an Offshore Wind project’s bid workstream to secure exclusive development rights &/or energy contracts in competitive tenders or auctions.

You will work as key member of the project’s Senior Management Team to provide strategic direction and ensure the route to success is well understood. You will develop and deliver a targeted programme of work to ensure a competitive, compliant, and deliverable bid application is submitted that will effectively maximise the chance of success in the tenders or auctions in which we participate.

Your role will be complex, dynamic and influential. The position will give you the platform to apply your strategic, commercial and technical expertise, and harness the expertise of the wider project team, and global functions, in support of our advanced deployment targets in the UK & Ireland.

Development Services UK & Ireland is your home department comprising of the regions Project Leads, Bid Managers, Assistant Bid Managers, Bid Support Officers, Investment Managers and Business Development Managers. You will be assigned into a project team in the UK & Ireland region within a matrix organisation.

Your future plans

  • Lead, and be responsible for, bid strategy creation and implementation to ensure the business wins deliverable and value accretive options.
  • Develop sufficient knowledge and expertise in the auction rules and the company’s functions in order to perform role.
  • Form a key member of the project’s Senior Management Team to provide strategic direction and ensure the route to success is well understood.
  • Co-ordinate the communication of the Bid Preparation Strategy to the project, senior management team and Board.
  • Contribute to the identification and implementation of strategic levers into the project’s business case to increase the competitiveness and deliverability of the bid.
  • Identify and implement how projects can maximise scoring against tender criteria (e.g. stakeholder management criteria, capability criteria, local supply criteria, etc.), whilst evaluating potential trade-offs.
  • Prepare manage and submit tender documentation including pre-qualification requirements and bid submissions - including the management of online portals and the coordination of contributions from across the bid project.
  • Ensure bid submissions achieve compliance with the tender regulations.
  • Appraise different bid options and tactics.
  • Contribute to project assumption book and business case for early development projects.
  • Support project with optimal wind farm concept selection and optimization through economic analysis of design options.
  • Contribute to inputs and methodologies to enable ranking of possible site locations. For example, holistic risk and opportunity analysis of site options (e.g. permitting, grid access etc.) or calculation of LCOEs to enable comparison of prospective sites.
  • Understand / develop protocols for bidding in partnerships (if applicable).
  • Ensure best practice approaches, tools are shared across and transferred into other bid projects.

Your profile

  • Proven history of relevant professional experience in projects which should include strategy, managing bids/tenders and leading work within business development projects.
  • The gravitas to both build a diverse virtual team and manage multiple stakeholders, and the knowledge and expertise to take responsibility and ownership of multiple projects at any one time.
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability to persuade, challenge and build credibility at all levels, across functions of the business. Proven stakeholder management experience including with external parties
  • Ability to make recommendations and implement decisions effectively in a manner consistent with sound bid management principles, and in a timely manner, while reporting key issues to the Project Lead
  • Ability to quickly develop knowledge in new areas, ideally in specialist technical or commercial fields. Previous knowledge of energy market auctions is not essential but would be a beneficial asset.
  • Hands-on experience devising the implementation of strategies or similar within commercial projects is desirable. Previous experience within the offshore renewable energy industry is advantageous.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing / documenting assumptions, strategies, data records and handling confidential information.
  • General understanding of the components of Offshore Wind assets including cost drivers and key risks and opportunities is desirable.
  • A proven history of personal responsibility for improving own development & career growth, broadening your professional competencies, skills and own learnings across commercial, technical, legal and policy fields.
  • English language proficiency is mandatory.
