To perform a range of clinical analysis laboratory tests including maintenance of accurate clinical records.

Day to day supervision of biomedical support workers and trainee Biomedical Scientists. Participates in training and mentoring and will provided guidance and advice as and when required.

2 Biomedical Scientist posts (Band 5)

Salary: - £30,229 to 37,664 with HCPC Registration

£26,364.80 without HCPC registration (Annex 21)

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individuals, with an IBMS accredited Biomedical Science Degree and either professional registration with the Health Care Professions Council or in a position to register for IBMS Competency portfolio on employment.

The applicants must have a flexible approach to work, as they will be required to rotate through all aspects of the service including Histology Laboratories, Immunohistochemistry Laboratories and Western General Hospital Laboratories. Initially, the successful applicant will be based at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh but will rotate to the Western General Hospital.

*Please note this is a Trainee post, therefore Annex 21 applies*

For trainees covered by Annex 21 where the period of training lasts for between one and four years, pay will be as follows:

  • up to 12 months prior to completion of training: 75 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate;
  • more than one but less than two years prior to completion of training: 70 per cent of the pay band maximum of the qualified rate of the qualified;
  • more than two but less than three years prior to completion of training: 65 per cent of the pay band maximum for the qualified rate.
  • more than three years from completion of training: 60 per cent of the pay band maximum of the fully qualified rate.
