JOB SUMMARY:
To provide a diagnostic support service to users of the Cellular Pathology Laboratory. The post holder will be required to undertake a range of diagnostic analysis, interpret the results produced and communicate the relevant information to clinicians.
KEY DUTIES:
1. Perform all routine tests associated with Cellular Pathology, including issuing routine reports (printed reports and/or verbal communication of results to clinicians) or making appropriate referrals for advice where necessary (e.g. in equivocal or extremely complex cases). Reporting may take place in emergency or out of hours circumstances.
2. Perform the necessary quality control procedures to ensure the integrity of the results produced, identifying and implementing first line remedial action in the event of QC failure.
3. Assisting in the preparation and review of SOP’s, COSHH and risk assessment documents.
4. Take responsibility for first line troubleshooting of equipment, carrying out any repairs which do not require the intervention of the manufacturer’s specialist engineers and reporting faults as required.
5. After gaining appropriate experience, be capable of providing the above functions in an out of hours context, where the post-holder is the sole Biomedical Scientist on duty for that discipline.
CRITERIA:
Must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist AND have completed IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent) in Cellular Pathology
OR
Have been employed as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) in 3 of the last 6 years, working in Cellular Pathology. Applicant must have HCPC registration and appear on the register.
SALARY:
£35,400 - £42,600 (plus enhanced annual leave, pension, staff benefits)
