Job description

Lead on the development and expansion of the current highly specialist HDR service provision to incorporate other sites. Act in the role of Radiation Protection Supervisor for the highly specialist HDR Brachytherapy Unit, utilizing expert knowledge of hazards and biological effects of radiations to their practice ensuring adherence to the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017. Manage the departmental process for ensuring timely health monitoring of classified workers. The post holder will be expected to act as an independent clinical practitioner applying highly developed specialist knowledge to provide advice on radiation exposures and practices. The post holder will be expected to lead on and take responsibility for all other key areas of the brachytherapy service including Quality system, Error reporting and investigation, Audit, Training, Complaints and Service Development Initiatives and Business Planning as appropriate. To participate in all aspects of clinical governance including error investigation and management, undertaking root cause analysis, developing risk assessments, writing and reviewing all brachytherapy work instructions and participation in clinical audit programs as appropriate. Be responsible for liaising with all other clinical areas such as theatres, CT and MRI to ensure complex care pathways are smoothly integrated and complex booking procedures for brachytherapy patients are in accordance with departmental and national guidelines. Be an authorized signatory responsible for managing, ordering and maintaining consumables and equipment and auditing usage to avoid waste for the brachytherapy service. To take due care of all highly specialized, complex, expensive equipment, reporting any faults or variations to the appropriate place/staff. To be responsible for ensuring that daily Quality Assurance checks are performed and recorded electronically ensuring all treatment equipment is safe and fit to operate. The post holder will be expected to deputise as appropriate for the other members of the management team and provide advice and decision making with regard to operational, departmental and clinical issues. Will be responsible for day to day management and supervision of Brachytherapy team including rotational staff managing personnel issues accordingly. The post holder will oversee and ensure completion of specialist Brachytherapy training and supervision of all junior staff, new staff, students and other health professionals, ensuring competency is maintained for all relevant staff groups. The post holder will be responsible for undertaking staff appraisals and 1-2-1 conversations as part of the departmental staff development process. The post holder will be an integral member of the departmental gynecological site-specific group.
