The basic salary for this role is £22,492.47 per annum for working 24.5 hours per week for 33 weeks of the year (£27.82 per hour) with enhancements for Ensemble and Whole Class teaching.

Are you a talented and creative Brass Teacher who wants to inspire children and young people to learn to play brass instruments? Come and work for Surrey Arts, Surrey's leading provider of youth music lessons, ensembles and instrument hire.

We have a vacancy for a permanent salaried peripatetic Brass Music Teacher to deliver individual and group lessons, whole class teaching and undertake the role of an Ensemble Director. This role is to cover the South (Dorking) and West (Guildford) of the county. Teaching takes place during the school day, after school and at the weekend at music centres in Surrey.

  • South area: Individual, Whole Class and Ensemble Director, 14.5 hours per week (445.5 hours per year).
  • West areaIndividual and Whole Class teaching, 10 hours per week (297 hours per year).

We are looking to appoint one teacher for this role, however may consider a job share.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a Brass Teacher to join our talented team of experienced and committed teaching staff. Across 33 weeks of the academic year, you will deliver high quality and innovative music education to children and adults at various schools and venues around the county.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Recognised music diploma/degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Passionate about the importance of music with a genuine desire to help all students express themselves musically
  • Ability to teach a range of students, adapting teaching style and genre of music to deliver engaging lessons that offer challenge and independence appropriate to age and ability
  • Practical knowledge and experience of teaching whole class instrumental lessons
  • ICT literate: ability to use email and web-based platforms
  • Understanding of safeguarding and commitment to ensuring the welfare of students
  • Commitment to continuing professional development
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues
  • A flexible approach to working due to changes in teaching schedules
  • Ability to travel around the county
