Working alongside journalists and programme makers are a dedicated team of Technical Operators who make sure the broadcast equipment and technology side of our business run smoothly. This apprenticeship is an exciting entry level opportunity to join the BBC in towns and cities across the country; working at the front end of technical operating in sound and/or vision in the newsroom ingest hubs, galleries, studios, post production areas, and out on location.

What will you be doing?
As a Technical Operator Apprentice (BOA24) your college learning will introduce you to a wide variety of skills across both TV and Radio. You will also gain many of the following skills via on the job 'learning by doing' supplemented by first class training at the BBC training site:
  • Camera Operations
  • Floor Management
  • Lighting
  • TV Vision Mixing
  • Sound Operations
  • Technical Directing
  • Shoot/Edit Multi-skilled Operator
  • Picture & Audio Editing
  • Podcasting
  • Media Management
Get BBC Academy industry training delivered by experienced trainers to learn skills on how to work in a live broadcast studio in TV and Radio across a range of multiskilled roles.
And you'll study for your industry recognised apprenticeship qualification, learning both on and off the job.
What does the role lead to?
After the scheme this will typically lead to a role as a multi skilled technical/broadcast operator. You may also progress into more specialised roles across the full range of broadcast operator skills across the BBC.
This scheme starts in September 2024 and is a 24 month programme
Locations:
Based in London. Please note that we are recruiting for this role in multiple locations, please ensure you're applying on the correct job advert. Candidates must be a commutable distance from the office, as we're unable to support with relocation.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:
  • Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2024
  • Be legally allowed to work in the UK full time
  • Already have or expect to have by the time the scheme starts, a GCSE in both Maths and English or Standard (Scotland) at 9-4 (A-C) or equivalent
  • Have been resident in either the UK or EEA since September 2021

You'll need to demonstrate:

WHAT YOU GET
  • A starting salary of GBP20,475 (+GBP5,164 London Living Allowance)
