Position: Building Inspector
Location: Carlisle
Pay Scale: £50-£55 per hour
Contract Type: Full-time, Ongoing Contract
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Assess deposited plans and Building Notices for compliance with Building Regulations and allied legislation, including cost estimation assessments.
- Conduct site inspections of work in progress to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
- Utilise the Section's 'Acolaid' computer system for accurate and up-to-date record-keeping.
- Engage with owners, architects, agents, builders, and the public to negotiate and resolve compliance issues.
- Enforce Building Regulations and manage dangerous structures and demolition controls.
- Ensure excellent customer care and promote Local Authority Building Control.
- Stay updated on industry changes, participate in training and development activities.
- Promote Best Value, excellence in customer service, and continuous improvement within a framework of equality and cultural diversity.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, colleagues, Members, and customers to enhance service quality.
- Promote best practices in Health & Safety and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
Health and Safety Responsibilities:
- Promote and adhere to Health & Safety legislation and Council policies.
- Identify and manage job-related risks through effective risk assessments, internal controls, training, monitoring, and review.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Full membership of MCABE, MCIOB, or MRICS.
- Either actively working towards or holding a minimum of a Class 2F registration with the Building Safety Regulator.
- Practical and procedural knowledge in:
- Processing applications for major projects to ensure compliance with Building Regulations.
- Applying extended regulatory guidance related to fire-engineered solutions, Building Bulletins, Firecode documents, etc.
- Preparing statements of evidence and serving as an expert witness in court for Building Regulations enforcement.
