This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced people manager to join DDTS Business Analysis team. You will play an important part in changing how we do things and building a digital future for Defra and our customers.

You will be part of the DDTS Business Analysis leadership team, helping to devise and deliver the team's overall goals. You will manage Business Analysts to ensure they are working consistently across delivery teams and guiding and managing the work efforts of the team. You will be responsible for line management, personal and professional development and well-being of direct reports, ensuring the provision of a high quality Business Analysis service to Defra.

These Team Leader roles will be primarily managing teams in and near our Warrington, York and Newcastle offices. There may be a requirement to manage staff in other locations in future. As such, regular travel will be required to effectively carry out the role.

A minimum of 30 hours per week is required in order to meet the business needs of managing the size of team.

Responsibilities

  • Be an effective member of the DDTS Business Analysis leadership team, taking action to set direction and provide leadership for the team
  • Manage team resources through monitoring and forecasting demand and team capacity, putting the right people with the right skills in the right place at the right time
  • Recruit and hire permanent and contract staff, on-boarding and undertaking staff induction
  • Manage people to deliver their best: encourage and motivate staff personal and professional development; their health, safety and wellbeing; and support through change
  • Manage performance by setting objectives, conducting performance reviews, regular one to one discussions, agreeing personal development plans and all line management duties for direct reports
  • Take an active role in the Business Analysis Community of Practice, supporting its development and success
  • Promote and advocate Business Analysis across DDTS and Defra, building relationships and wider awareness of the profession and the team's delivery

Skills and experience

  • Inspiring, collaborative and inclusive Team Leadership skills, especially supporting teams honestly and effectively through change and uncertainty
  • An experienced line manager and people leader
  • Excellent people management skills - building capability and resilience, and creating a supportive professional culture
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills, managing relationships at all levels with business, customers and IT subject matter experts and stakeholders
  • Versatility to adapt to new challenges and ways of working to deliver results and build a successful team in a changing environment
  • Have a sound understanding of what Business Analysis is and how the Business Analyst role fits with and supports organisational priorities
  • Good working knowledge of IT project delivery
