The Case Centre is the independent home of the case method. We are dedicated to advancing the case method worldwide, sharing knowledge, wisdom and experience to inspire and transform business education across the globe. We are a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity.

We hold and distribute the world’s largest and most diverse collection of management cases, articles, book chapters and teaching materials, including the collections of leading business schools across the globe. We also offer a wide variety of services, resources and activities to support the case community.

We are recruiting for a Business Development Officer to join our fantastic team. This is a new position and offers you the opportunity to build and define the role to generate revenue growth and to promote the case method across a global audience.

We are looking for someone to play a pivotal role in fostering existing customer relationships, identifying growth opportunities, and cultivating new customers through a consultative approach aimed at enhancing engagement and driving sales.

We are looking for a naturally consultative Business Development professional with a passion for business growth and who is committed to learning, understanding and promoting what we do to a wider audience.

The key aim of this role is to grow existing business with both individuals and organisations and to seek out new opportunities.

You will be a self-motivated and charismatic Business Development professional, competent with IT, with demonstrable experience in an academic environment -  acquired through either study or through work experience. You will have several years of experience in a similar role and environment.

There will be clear KPI’s set for this role, and you will be given a comprehensive induction which will include training on our ways of working and the case method itself.

We offer a competitive salary £32,000 to £35,000 per annum, together with over 4 weeks annual leave, a generous pension scheme and a comprehensive benefits programme.

The role

You will be the lead in developing relationships within existing business schools and facilities as well as opening doors to new relationships.

Key responsibilities

Client relationship building: Develop and nurture relationships with potential customers based on trust and understanding. Act as a consultant, offering insights and solutions aligned with customer objectives.

Online meetings and presentations:  Deliver presentations on services in online meetings, establishing rapport and understanding customer needs.

Needs assessment and solution identification: Listen actively to customer requirements, understanding their challenges. Identify solutions or services that address specific needs.

Consultative selling: Guide customers through the decision-making process by providing valuable information and advice. Offer recommendations aligned with the customer’s goals, rather than pushing for a sale.

Academic conference representation:Travel to academic conferences to represent the company as an exhibitor. Engage with conference attendees in a consultative manner, showcasing our products/services and establishing meaningful connections.

Collaboration and communication: Work closely with internal teams to align solutions with customer needs. Communicate effectively in a clear and understandable manner. Focus on building sustainable relationships that lead to ongoing business opportunities.

Continuous improvement and learning: Stay updated on industry trends, competitors, and evolving customer needs. Continuously refine approaches based on feedback and learning from customer interactions. Prepare reports highlighting successes, challenges, and areas for improvement.

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrable experience in an education environment- through work or study.
  • Experience in a similar Business Development role.
  • Knowledge of the not-for-profit sector.

Person specification

  • You will be IT literate with knowledge of CRM systems.
  • You will have a charismatic nature and be able to build rapport easily and effectively.
  • You will be self-motivated and driven to succeed.

Your approach to Business Development must be consultative as we value the longevity of our relationships with our schools and teachers, and this is to be preserved at all costs.
