This role has a starting salary of £38,746 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract with possibility for annual renewal subject to renewal of Growth Hub funding from central government.

Surrey County Council is looking for a Business Gateway and Monitoring Officer to oversee and manage enquiries for our new business support service based in Woodhatch, Reigate. This role is open to remote working, with an expectation of 1 or 2 days in the office per week and additional in-person work with regular travel across Surrey.

About the Role

As the Business Gateway and Monitoring Officer in the Economy and Growth Team, you will be responsible for actively managing the Business Surrey gateway, being the first point of contact for enquiring businesses and providing an initial light touch triage service. The role will also include oversight and management of the Growth Hub's monitoring and evaluation requirements, including its bespoke Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.

You will be integral to the coordination of the business support offer across Surrey, acting as a key connector to business support services in the county, including support from the Growth Hub, the Economy Team and other business support services at Surrey County Council, and all external business representative organisations and networks that can support our businesses in their growth journey.

You will work across the whole of the Surrey geography, attending regular events and in-person meetings. Flexible working arrangements including working from home and travel across the county will apply so you should be able to drive or demonstrate an ability to undertake stakeholder visits across Surrey.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Thorough knowledge and experience of business support delivered by the public sector, particularly regarding the business support landscape at local, regional, and national level.
  • Experience with business engagement, particularly regarding initial triage, diagnostic and signposting provision.
  • Ability to work with people from different organisations towards a common goal, considering differing requirements and perspectives, and ability to operate in a politically sensitive environments within democratic processes.
  • Experience of utilising and overseeing CRM systems, ability to interpret multiple data sources, and excellent communication skills.
  • Organisation, time, and priorities management skills with a credible, personable, and approachable style to build enduring relationships and rapport.
