What is the Business Industrial Placement Programme?


We’re recruiting for students with a real passion for data to come and join our Business Industrial Placement Programme!


You’ll be based at Heysham Power Station, where you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside like-minded people. On the scheme, you'll have the chance to learn through hands-on experience under the guidance of highly skilled and experienced colleagues.

Training, development and support for you:


Over this 12-month programme, most of what you learn will be on the job, with support from your mentor and the teams you work in. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your academic training to genuine problems that are faced in the energy industry and complete modules that contribute to your degree.


The skills and experience gained on such a varied Industrial Placement offers you an introduction to a fast-paced, vital, and dynamic area.

Where you’ll work:


You’ll be based at our Heysham Power Station with the ability to work from home from time to time.


What you’ll need to join the team:


  • On track to achieve or will have already achieved a 2:2 undergraduate degree or 2:2 postgraduate qualification in either Business Intelligence, Business Data Analytics, Business Computing, Digital Business, Data Analytics, Business Analytics and Management Science or Business Management with data modules.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, including the ability to create and use spreadsheets at a highly proficient level (building and applying advanced formulas, recording macros, performing complex calculations, simulations, graphing, data visualisation and automation, handling data in meaningful ways, including reporting and presenting)
  • Use of Business Intelligence analytics data management tools.
  • Experience in producing data visualisations, detailed reporting and analytics underpinned with clear business commentary.
  • Ability to turn large quantities of complex data into insights which can be used to inform decision making and drive business benefit.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally and sensitively.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new challenges and thrive in agile work environments.
  • The ability to operate within a team and to work efficiently and sensitively with all team members.
  • To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
