An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-starting and enthusiastic Developer / tester to join our innovative and fast paced Business intelligence development team.
We are looking to appoint a pro-active and dynamic individual with the confidence to engage with others across all levels of the organisation and wider health sector.
Working with the Senior BI developer you will be required to thoroughly test latest Data warehouse developments, support BAU activity and systems as well as undertaking development work.
The role would be ideal for an experienced tester looking to take the next step on a career in BI and SQL development.

The small print

1. Communication and relationship skills
• The postholder will have the ability to communicate technical challenges and solutions in an understandable way, to internal and external parties who will have varying levels of technical knowledge.
• The postholder will be confident and comfortable presenting information on a 1:1 basis or to a large group, both in person and via video conferencing software such as Microsoft Teams.
• The postholder will select and use the most appropriate form of communication to ensure that the messages being communicated are fully understood by their audience, and can be used to come to informed judgements on the issues under discussion.
• The postholder will represent MCH and its values at meetings with external stakeholders.
• The postholder will build good working relationships with key stakeholders including internal staff, senior management, commissioners, IT suppliers and other statutory bodies.
• The postholder will have the ability to communicate highly complex data/statistical information to a range of healthcare professionals with varying levels analytical expertise and sometimes in environments where there are potential (hostile) barriers to acceptance.
• The postholder will be responsible for providing clear training process documentation.
1. Knowledge, training and experience
• The postholder will be educated to degree level, or with an equivalent level of skill gained through experience of providing support services in a complex environment; and will have continued to develop their skills and expertise through a programme of on-going personal development.
• Strong technical skills within BI and database technologies. Particularly intermediate/advanced T-SQL, and a solid ability with the wider Microsoft BI Stack (SSAS, SSIS, SSRS).
• Solid experience of end to end testing of BI Systems and data structures, from designing and documenting test plans, through running a test schedule and final sign off. Including the ability to perform analysis of test failures in order to suggest / recommend appropriate fixes or remedial action.
• The postholder will have experience of delivering workstream solutions within a larger project, including customised and optimised Data Warehouse solutions, based on Relational Databases and Tabular Data Modelling techniques, derived from multiple, often highly disparate data sources.
• The postholder will have experience of working within IT projects and delivering on time and to budget.
• The postholder will have excellent knowledge and experience of working with performance data and a proven track record of implementing change.
• The postholder will have proven experience of improving processes and/or reporting solutions.
• The postholder will have excellent IT skills on Word, Access, Power BI and advanced knowledge of Excel.
• The postholder will have knowledge of technical data analysis and reporting using a variety of systems.
• The postholder will have excellent presentation skills and the ability to design user friendly data reports.
• The postholder will be aware of and comply with information governance principles and procedures with particular emphasis on compliance with confidentiality requirements.
• The postholder will have excellent planning and organisational skills.
1. Analytical and judgement skills
• The postholder will be able to analyse new developments and be capable of identifying the appropriate test strategy. They will be capable of working through both the code and business requirement, whilst understanding the nuances of MCH data in order to deliver and execute a coherent and comprehensive test plan.
• The postholder will have the ability to analyse a business requirement and recommend or design a solution to fulfil that requirement, whilst ensuring it is in keeping with the overall BI Development strategy and technological direction. Utilising as many existing products and functions as possible.
• The postholder will have the ability to identify where they do not have sufficient information to reach robust conclusions on an issue, and to escalate as appropriate.
• The postholder will have the ability to generate solutions and options to data / software issues.
• The postholder will have the ability to collate, analyse, interpret and present complex activity and performance data for a range of services.
1. Planning and organisational skills
• The postholder will have the ability to identify when their work streams are failing to achieve required milestones and will develop and implement a suitable rectification plan and notify to the appropriate manager or governance group at the earliest opportunity.
• The postholder will have the ability and experience to complete projects without direct supervision and recommend changes to plans.
• The postholder will have the ability to plan their own workload in order to deliver key targets/timescales and recommend/instruct others in the achievement of objectives and project outcomes.
• The postholder will be responsible for planning and designing all data processing operations. They will collaborate with external suppliers and other members of the team. These will be critical in ensuring achievement of the daily and monthly reporting process cycles and that all contractual deadlines are met.
1. Physical skills
• The postholder will have advanced keyboard skills.
• The postholder will have advanced use of a range of relevant IT packages.
• The postholder will have the ability to operate audio-visual equipment.
• The postholder will be required to travel between sites to meetings and event.
1. Responsibility for patient / client care
• The postholder will have no direct responsibility for patient care, but will be required to assist patients appropriately during incidental contact.
• The work undertaken by the postholder may have a direct impact on the organisations ability to provide clinical service, and as such the postholder is required to conduct himself or herself with the utmost propriety.
1. Responsibility for policy and service development implementation
• The postholder is responsible for implementing policies and procedures within their activities and will contribute to wider information policies/practices/procedures including suggestions for changes that come about in light of analytical work they are carrying out.
• The postholder will be responsible for developing and maintaining clear and concise Standard Operating Procedures and Change Management processes.
• The postholder will keep up to date with relevant legislation, policies and procedures and communicate to relevant parties and will be responsible for developing datasets and standards where required.
1. Responsibilities for financial and physical resources
• When identifying technical solutions, the postholder will be expected to explore multiple options
• The postholder will avoid resource and time-waste wherever possible.
• The postholder will submit their own timesheets and travel claims accurately and in a timely manner.
1. Responsibilities for human resources (HR)
• The postholder will ensure the Business Intelligence team has guidance documentation (process notes) to support all ‘business as usual’ activities that need to be undertaken.
• The postholder will provide training to a range of staff and managers across the organisation of varying technical ability.
• The postholder will direct other analysts within the team in respect of activities that are required to develop and test reports and dashboards.
• The postholder will liaise with others to ensure cover of rotas and key tasks including planning of annual leave.
1. Responsibilities for information resources
• The postholder will champion and seek improvement in all areas of data quality, recommending and implementing improvements to processes and structures that maintain the integrity and quality of information used to support operations.
• Monitor the processing of data and information and regulate the provision of baseline data which will enable managers of services to identify opportunities to improve business efficiency and productivity.
• The postholder in collaboration with the other analysts will ensure that all information collected and held by the organisation is stored in a confidential and appropriate manner and is destroyed in line with statutory requirements.
• The postholder must have advanced keyboard use, inputting and manipulating data, ensuring quality and accuracy of input and producing reports.
1. Responsibilities for research and development (R&D)
• The postholder will undertake surveys or audits to support service development, particularly audits in respect of data quality.

• The postholder will have the ability and experience to complete projects with limited supervision.
• The postholder will have the ability to make recommendations that ensure that their projects are delivered to time, and to the highest possible level of quality.
• The postholder will have the ability and experience to recognise when issues and risks are jeopardising the delivery of a project and escalate these issues to their line manager when necessary.
• The postholder will work under their own initiative and recommend prioritisation of activities their workload to ensure the delivery of the wider team priorities.
