The Department of Marketing, International Business and Tourism is on an ambitious course to strengthen its profile as an inclusive and highly renowned department of marketing professional practice and research for places and the service sectors.

We are looking to appoint independent assessors with expertise in Digital Marketing or Retailing to help drive forward our successful portfolio of Digital Marketing (DMDA) and Retail Leadership (RLDA) Degree Apprenticeship programmes.

Assessors are required to assess our Apprentices as part of the End Point Assessment process for the Degree Apprenticeship. Independent assessors need to be totally independent of the training delivery and will not have been involved with the apprentice's employment, have not taught on the Digital Marketer Apprenticeship Programmes at the Manchester Metropolitan University.

This position is contract-based, for a one-off period in 2024. Training for the role will be provided before the EPAs, on campus which you must attend.

Essential to the role:

You will

  • Have a good first degree ideally in a relevant academic subject
  • Have extensive relevant industry experience with an in-depth understanding of their relevant discipline which will be aligned to the occupational areas they will be assessing.
  • Indicators of Professional standing such as membership of relevant Professional bodies, e.g. Fellowship/Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, Membership/Fellowship of the British Computer Society, Institute of Data and Marketing, Interaction Design Foundation, Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Management Institute or similar
  • Be student-focused in your academic practice, committed to quality, collaborative in your work and driven in your own professional development.

Desirable to the role

You will:

  • Have a Master's or PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), Certificate of Education, Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education (PGC LTHE) or membership of the Higher Education Academy.
  • Have experience of teaching in a higher education setting, and experience of Unit/Module Leadership (unit/module design, unit/module management, assessment, quality assurance) is desirable.

Training will be provided to ensure all independent assessors will understand and be fully competent in the development and application of appropriate marking schema and rubrics. Independent assessors will be fully briefed to understand the marking criteria and rubrics for the End Point Assessment.

Independent assessors will undertake an appropriate induction to fully understand the Digital Marketer or Retail Leadership Degree Apprenticeship model and apprenticeship standards so that all assessments are applied with the correct context.

In addition to the above, Independent Assessors will attend regular standardisation events (minimum one per year) and will therefore be fully conversant with good assessment practice, operating assessment tools, and grading. All Independent assessors will be required to meet QAA requirements
