The Role:

Are you ready to take on a pivotal role at Southwark Council, steering our Fleet Services to new heights? We are offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and visionary leader to join our team as a Fleet ServicesBusiness Manager.

Fleet Services play an essential role in ensuring that Southwark Council can effectively deliver a wide range of resident-focused services. This department is responsible for the provision and management of the Council’s commercial vehicle fleet. These includes everything from waste collection trucks to service vans used by various council departments

Strategic Leadership: Lead the Fleet Services business unit, guiding your team to deliver high-quality, sustainable, and cost-efficient commercial fleet solutions.

Innovation and Sustainability: Develop and implement a forward-thinking strategy focused on technical advancements, carbon emission reductions, and continuous improvement.

Cross-Division Collaboration: Work closely with multiple divisions and directorates to enhance service delivery through effective policy development and process improvements.

About us

The Fleet Services business unit sits within the Traded Services division. Traded Services also contains business units which deliver street lighting, pest control services, sign and steel product fabrication workshops, parks and play equipment maintenance and many more services to the internal market. All in a direct labour self-delivery model

We understand that Fleet may sound technically niche but if you can display a good understanding of management functions such as process development, governance, business technology, procurement and finance and you have great people skills, we will help you with the bit on wheels

About You:

Exceptional Communication Skills: The successful candidate will possess outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, essential for crafting complex reports and providing advice to the Council and all stakeholders. Your ability to clearly articulate ideas and strategies will be crucial in driving our initiatives forward.

Core Competencies: We are looking for someone with a robust foundation in key functional areas, including finance, people management, and contract management. Your knowledge in these domains will be instrumental in improving our current services.

Leadership: An excellent communicator with strong written skills, you will lead in developing and continuously improving the service by developing policies, enhancing processes and procedures, and monitoring their implementation. Your base knowledge of core functions (e.g. finance, people, contracts) will help drive improvements through development and effective collaboration across multiple divisions and directorates.

Additional details This post attracts an additional JNC financial benefits package of £2,724 per annum (pro-rata, April - March).
