Job Description

Anopportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic SolutionsDevelopment Manager to join our highly skilled and successfulteam. Working within the Business Development function, youwill principally be responsible for leading the solution design oftender responses, designing and delivering commercially competitivesolutions for either warehouse or transportopportunities.

The successful candidatewill have a commercial awareness of the UK third party logisticssector gained through an operations background. You willpossess excellent analytical and IT skills, essential to producedetailed operating cost models and need to be comfortablecommunicating at Board Level and presenting proposals to customers.An element of travel if required for thisposition.

We are recruiting for twopositions:

  • WarehouseSolutions Development Manager
  • TransportSolutions Development Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Communicatedirectly with customers during all stages of the tenderprocess.
  • Analyse customer requirementsincluding tender documents and data. Assess business developmentopportunities in the context of Great Bear’s existing operationsand provide executive summaries. Make recommendations regarding thesuitability of potential new business.
  • Plan andcoordinate project and tender responses. Make recommendationsregarding bid scope. Liaise with Regional Operations Directors,operations teams and specialist functions within the businessthroughout all phases of the tenderprocess.
  • Design warehouse and transportsolutions taking into account industry best practice, including:Warehouse processes; layouts; equipment; vehicle routing and shiftplanning, IT systems; management and adminstructures.
  • Develop and execute appropriatemodels to determine resources (people, equipment, property, IT,transport etc.) to feed into financialmodels.
  • Manage quotes for sub-contracting anynon-core services, which form part of tenderscope.
  • Prepare profit and loss budgets inconjunction with finance teams.
  • Providedetailed financial and operational comparisons for alternativesolutions highlighting risk.
  • Prepare tenderresponse documentation andpresentations.
  • Assist with the development ofcompany marketing materials.
  • Maintain an up todate knowledge of developments in the industry through membershipof a professional body (e.g. CILT), attending industry events andtraining courses.
  • Support the development ofother members of the business developmentteam.
  • Support the implementation of newcontracts.

Qualifications

  • Successfultrack record working in a logistics solutions design role withcommercial accountability. Operational experienceadvantageous.
  • Ability to lead a team throughthe tender process and produce high quality results. Leveragesupport from other departments e.g. IT, operations, HR, facilitiesmanagement, to ensure appropriate engagement in solutions designand the tender process.
  • Technically proficientusing advanced Microsoft Office Excel functionality (macros; pivottables; data links; lookups; etc.) with the ability to deal withcomplex data management.
  • Current and in depthunderstanding of commercial warehouse and transport rates andprofit & loss.
  • Confident communicating withSenior Management, Key Stakeholders and customers up to andincluding Board Level.
  • Experience of automationtechnologies currently in the market.
  • Abilityto use industry-recognised simulation and modelling tools is notessential but may be advantageous e.g. CAD, CLASS, CAST, Paragonetc.
