Butchers Assistant

Job description

Responsibilities:

Assisting in Meat Preparation: Assist the butcher in preparing different types of meat for sale, including beef, pork, poultry, and seafood. This may involve trimming, deboning, and portioning meat according to customer specifications.
Operating Equipment: Operate and maintain various tools and equipment used in the meat processing, such as knives, saws, grinders, and slicers, ensuring they are clean and in good working condition.
Packaging and Labeling: Package meat products in accordance with food safety standards, ensuring proper labeling with accurate weights, prices, and expiration dates.
Maintaining Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment by regularly cleaning work areas, equipment, and utensils to prevent cross-contamination and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
Customer Service: Assist customers by providing information about different cuts of meat, answering questions about cooking methods and recipes, and fulfilling special requests.
Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring meat inventory levels, rotating stock, and notifying management when supplies need to be replenished.
Following Food Safety Regulations: Adhere to all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling and storage of meat products, to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:

Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects, and perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Knife Skills: Proficiency in using knives and other cutting tools safely and accurately.
Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate weighing, portioning, and labeling of meat products.
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, taking direction from the butcher and collaborating with colleagues to meet customer needs.
Customer Focus: Friendly and approachable demeanor with excellent customer service skills to assist and engage with customers effectively.
Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of basic food safety principles and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards in the workplace.
Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed in a retail environment.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a similar role, such as meat cutting or food preparation, is preferred but not always required.
On-the-job training provided.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: £15.00-£17.00 per hour

Expected hours: 37.50 per week
