Due to an internal promotion, a fantastic opportunity has now arisen for a Buyer (Goods Not For Resale) to join our Procurement team at our Head Office in Newcastle upon Tyne. Reporting to a Purchasing Manager for Capital Equipment, the successful candidate will support our 13 manufacturing and logistics sites with purchasing expertise for consumables, MRO, and other service contracts.

The GNFR Procurement team are responsible for the sourcing of £180 million of goods and services for our, circa, 2400 shops, 13 Manufacturing & Logistics sites and Head Office. The responsibility of the team stretches from Capital to Utilities, Shopfitting, Waste, Uniforms, IT hardware and software, Marketing spend and many more categories in-between.

This is a great opportunity for someone to develop a Purchasing career in fast moving, successful company and be part of a great team. The successful candidate will need to be an expert negotiator, with strong interpersonal, communication and supplier management skills.

It is expected that the successful candidate will have purchasing experience in a multi-site business, ideally in the food manufacturing industry, however we would be interested to speak to people with similar experience in other industry sectors

About the role

What you'll do

The successful candidate will need to effectively communicate with both suppliers and internal stakeholders, ensuring that the appropriate quality and quantity of goods and services are available, when and where required, and to the agreed functional specification.

· Undertake a mix of day to day and strategic procurement activities from contract management and negotiation, to tender management and strategic sourcing across multiple supply chain functions - logistics, engineering, manufacturing and site services

· Continually generate new opportunities to create value within supply chain through negotiation

· To extract and analyse SAP and BI data to identify opportunities to drive value or consolidate supplier spends.

· Support project engineers and purchasing managers with the sourcing and implementation of new key spares.

· To review processes and standards to maintain customer focus and identify and implement best practice including CSR & environmental factors

· To maintain good relationships with both internal and external customers and suppliers

· Regularly review supplier base, sourcing new suppliers to support business objectives and create value

· To support the Purchasing Managers on larger projects when require

About you

You will fit right into this role if you:

· Persuasive and able to communicate and influence at all levels.

· Experience of negotiating better pricing, tender processes or driving value from supplier interactions.

· Experience of dealing with multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Experience of reporting from SAP, running analysis using excel and driving insight from data.

· Ability to demonstrate a capability to liaise with Internal and External contacts and to effectively ensure Stakeholder engagement.

· Highly numerate and literate with strong analytical skills.

· Self-starter who is able to plan and organise their time effectively

· Track record of delivering value and continuous improvement

· Team orientated with a passion for achieving both personal and collaborative objectives

· Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 suite, and ideally SAP and Ariba

· A can-do attitude and flexibility to working hours is required
