CAD Technician / DraughtspersonCladding & Structural Steel

A highly sought-after opportunity to work with one of the North East s most respected and well-known construction companies. Having been established for over 20 years they pride themselves on the quality of their work and have established a reputation for their high-quality projects from conception through to completion within the industrial, commercial and refurbishment sectors.

Due to the continuous growth, they have seen recently they have identified the need for a new CAD Technician / Draughtsperson to help the existing team with the new projects they have taken on.

The Duties

You will be reporting directly to the Managing Director and will be responsible for running the drawing office and providing support to the other Draughtsperson(s).

  • Preparation of cladding drawings from both the Structural Steel and architectural drawing packages.
  • Engage with both the architect and Steelwork contractor to ensure compatibility of designs and details are encompassed within the cladding package whilst advising both contracts and estimating of any issues or discrepancies that might arise at pre - construction stage.
  • Co-ordinated with external draughtsperson(s) ensuring all information is clearly submitted and received.
  • Compile procurement & Delivery schedules liaising with Contracts Managers.
  • Preparation of material schedules for ordering.
  • Checking all acknowledgements / delivery confirmations are correct.
  • Checking all cladding drawings and material schedules prepared by the Draughtsperson(s)
  • Managing the administration, preparation and organising of contract files
  • Liaise with and assist site personnel as and when necessary.
  • Maintaining a dialogue with the suppliers to ensure competitive costs are achieved and any amendments or revisions are communicated and recorded.
  • Police company policy with regard to material / cladding systems in order to ensure that the company is not compromised in relation to warranties, deeds and other contractual details.
  • Ensure enquiries and /or tender packages are sent to sub-contractors and suppliers in time to meet programme (liaise with Contracts to undertake some of these tasks).
  • Chasing up and obtaining material supplier warranties and guarantee documentation.
  • Preparation of CDM and Building Manual
  • Represent the company at site meetings. Take and distribute meeting minutes when it is agreed as the company s responsibility to do so.
  • Maintain flow of timely information to the client regarding drawings and variations.
  • On completion and hand over, provide CDM (Contract Design Manuals) documents prepared by the DO staff, containing all relevant information, user instructions and guarantees and ensure this is delivered to the client and signed for.
  • In conjunction with the other draughts personnel monitor in house procedures / methods of work to ensure that required quality standards are achieved

The Requirements

  • Be experienced in 2D AUTOCAD.
  • Have knowledge of CDM regulations and responsibilities.
  • Be experienced in working with Cladding.
  • Experience working with Structural Steel would be beneficial.
  • Take overall responsibility for the general running of the draughting element of the project worked on.
  • Have an excellent understanding of the scope and requirements of each project.
  • Work on your own initiative as well as with colleagues and the wider team on joint projects when required.
  • Have excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Be capable and willing to follow procedures.
  • Have excellent communication skills, able to communicate both verbally and in writing with a variety of personnel.
  • Carry out such other duties as deemed necessary and are consistent with the job holder s knowledge and skills for the satisfactory completion of contracts or for the attainment of the goals of the business.
