Job description

My client is looking for a CAD Tool Design Engineer to join on them on a Permanent basis. As a CAD Tool Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the provision of mechanical CAD expertise supporting the engineering department, with particular focus on tooling design. To be responsible for the creation, review and continuous improvement of tooling drawing. Supporting the wider Tooling process to troubleshoot production defects in areas effecting tooling, for continuous development of company tools.
Role: CAD Tool Design Engineer
Pay: £28,200 + DOE per annum PAYE
Location: Greater London, Middlesex
Permanent role (on site)
Hours: 37.5 Hours per week.
Job Profile
· Design and develop new tooling concepts, supporting the Technical Process Manager and Tool Maker in creation of tooling drawings.
· Where required, and in close liaison with either in house tool room, or external supplier developed detailed tooling design within the CAD system (Solid Works)
· As required, with internal and external tooling resources, provide technical liaison with support from the wider organisation.
· Technical support of daily operations in all areas of documenting tooling, including NEW, MODIFICATION and REPAIR of tooling
· Creation of internal tooling work instructions (as required) to document use and maintenance of specific tooling, to ensure a consistent quality output.
· With liaison with the rest of the technical team, investigate and develop new processes, methods, and layouts to increase equipment flexibility and improve throughput, within the OEM standard requirements.
· Supporting the TPM-Tooling, investigate non-conformities and within the matric environment to alter tooling and or process until deficiency or unsatisfactory condition is corrected.
· Supporting the TPM-Tooling, working within the wider LHT Product Segment to optimise the tooling processes - to allow for transition of information between facilities. Using LHT structures, develop processes and procedures between sites to ensure best practice design.
· As required for the needs of the engineering department, be responsible for the creation of engineering documentation as required. This documentation will include, but not limited to CAD based BUSH drawings (draft and model), PDF based Picture Sheets, Inspection documents and other supporting documents.
· The job requires the person to be flexible in terms of working schedule - based on the needs of the business. Some duty travel may be considered necessary to cooperate with other station within the LHT Group.
· The role is office based, however day to day support of the LTLGS plating shop will require significant time within this area and therefore the employee will be exposed to toxic and corrosive chemicals.
Skills/Experience Required
· Proven CAD modelling and drafting skills (ideally SolidWorks), for tooling, jig and fixture design. Knowledge to include modelling, drafting and complex assemblies. Kinematics would be advantageous.
· Experience in a metal component processing, including surface finishing operations for Aerospace components.
· Excellent IT knowledge (Understanding of MRP & ERP / MS Office products)
· High analysis, trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distil technical information for both a technical and non-technical audience.
· An approachable team player, who proven to work in a matrix environment.
· Highly Innovative, analytical, decisive, multi-tasked, and goal oriented individual is required with the ability to manage time and resources
· Right to work within the UK without any restrictions
Education & Training
Essential - Strong experience in a similar role
· Minimum qualification HND in a mechanical discipline, with significant CAD experience; o Higher qualification considered if able to demonstrate genuine interest in pursuing Tool Design.
· Training in Lean manufacturing, Continuous improvement, and Statistical Process Control would be beneficial.
