The RIC is a multi use venue comprising a range of Leisure facilities as well Conference/Event and Function spaces. These facilities are complimented by a Food and Beverage department including a public cafe and an event kitchen team.

Job Description

Primary objectives for the Cafe Supervisor will be:

  • To supervise the day-to-day operations of the cafe in order to maximise business opportunities in line with the company business plan.

  • To be part of the Food and Beverage team that provides an exciting, healthy, innovative, quality food and beverage operation in order to create demand which meets customer needs whilst increasing profitability.

  • To provide the highest possible standards of customer care within a healthy and safe environment by guiding, caring for and assisting customers in their choice and use of the catering facilities.

  • Ensuring excellent presentation of food and beverages to the customer at all times.

  • Maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene and cleanliness at all times.

  • Being aware of all Health and Safety issues, constantly implementing and assessing procedures, and drawing attention to any useful practices.

  • Providing innovative ideas and initiating action to increase the usage of the Food and Beverage facilities.

  • Ensure company financial regulations are adhered to in terms of cash handling, reconciliation and invoice processing.

  • Ensure staff understand and observe matters relating to licensing laws.

  • To assist in the provision of appropriate staff training and development.

  • Working as part of a team to achieve the usage and profitability targets of the catering facilities.

The Cafe Supervisor will focus day to day on the following tasks:

  • To create and manage the cafe rota and deal with any amendments to the rota due to staff sickness or annual leave.

  • To authorise annual leave requests in the first instance before passing to Food and Beverage Manager.

  • To ensure sufficient staff are available for the safe, high quality functioning of the Cafe/Bar.

  • Ensure that kitchens, food preparation areas, servery and customer areas are clean and tidy, including the clearing of tables.

  • To ensure that the cafe areas are well presented.

  • To serve Food and Beverages as appropriate.

  • To carry out bar services as required.

  • To support specific events as required.

  • Maintain Health and Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.

  • To take payment from customers and ensure all payment and end of day banking procedures are adhered to.

  • Stimulate secondary spend by facility users by way of regular promotional activity.

  • Monitor food and beverage stocks, restocking as required.

  • To undertake any other duties as may be required to assist in the running of the overall facility.

The Candidate

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

 

Personal

 

The postholder will ideally hold a basic food handling certificate and have at least one years experience in a busy café or restaurant. Food preparation and service skills are key to this position.

 

Among the personal characteristics sought the applicant:

  • Must be able to build strong relationships with customers, clients and employees.

  • Must be able to communicate at different levels of the organisation, both listen and direct.

  • Must be able to meet the demands of the role by working additional hours when required.

  • Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic IT literature

  • Must be able to supervise and motivate staff.

  • Must be willing to work on a rota system.  Weekend availability essential.
