South Tyneside Council has over 30 years' experience of delivering outstanding events which not only appeals to local residents, but visitors from across the UK. One of the key elements of the programme is our three-month Summer Festival which can attract over 120,000 spectators.
The Festival features an opening parade (Saturday 6July) which is one of the largest in the north of England. Following a successful pilot 2 years ago we intend to roll activity into the following day (Sun 7 July)to engage with a wider audience in more intimate settings along Sandhaven Promenade, South Shields.
Subject to a successful funding application we are looking to programme special commissions by four emerging street theatre companies/ artistes and/or static interactive installations at two performance locations on our stunning Promenade.
Each performance area will be operational for 3 hours during the afternoon and successful commissions will work in rotation unless it is a static installation.
