Job description

PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY People management: Monitor the performance of the team using the Daily Checklist or another mechanism. Spot check the work of the team to gain assurance. Use communication skills to support staff with wellbeing and performance. Use coaching and mentoring techniques to support individuals within the team in reaching their potential. Carry out yearly appraisals and ensure mandatory training is complete. Manage staff through the performance, conduct or sickness policies if/when required. Manage staffing levels and workload allocation within Cancer Services. Communicates sensitive information about performance relating to tracking patients, data collection and coordinating issues Provide training for new junior posts within the Team, enabling and supporting continual development of skills Be responsible for recruiting new staff into the team, then ensuring delivery of their induction and training packages. Management and coordination of Cancer Pathway Coordinators in times of absence and sickness to ensure adequate cover Provide cover for the Cancer Pathway Coordinators during times of significant absence Responsible for the MDT room and ensuring it is fully functional for the Cancer Pathway Coordinators to coordinate meetings and capture data. Data management (cover for the Cancer Services Data Manager): To undertake audits and surveys i.e., deep dive into the 62-day backlog patients to ensure they have been tracked correctly throughout their pathway. To support the delivery of National Peer Review Liaise with clinical teams regarding collection of clinical data Ensures accurate data is rapidly captured and recorded to meet the standards for the management of patients, and to fulfil the cancer information requirements. Validate and report potential breaches and ensure escalation policy followed. Escalate any issues within cancer pathways to the Cancer Services Support Manager. Negotiate tertiary breaches with other organisations in the Peninsula, ensuring all the required pre-transfer investigations and procedures have been completed before the transfer of care. Coordinate and remain informed of future cancer information requirements. Systems Administrator for Somerset Cancer Register (SCR) which involves coordinating system updates twice a year. Develop and maintain an SCR contingency plan. Support the rollout of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) by enabling its integration with SCR. Work closely with Performance Information to ensure timely and quality data collection. Train and support staff in the use of policies and datasets such as COSD, CWT and Audit Sites, ensuring a minimum 95% competency across Cancer Services. To support the Cancer Pathway Coordinators by analysing delays and ensure potential breaches are addressed and or escalated. Work with Cancer Improvement Manager to improve systems and patient pathways. To ensure unresolved complex potential breaches are escalated to Cancer Services Support Manager. Innovate and collaborate with the Digital Automation Team to create streamlined processes for capturing data. General responsibilities: Develop appropriate system to manage their own workload and use own initiative. Identify / suggest new ways of working both within Cancer Services and the Cancer MDTs. Provide cover when other members of the Cancer Services management team are unable to host the daily Cancer Huddle. To assist the Cancer Services Support Manager across full range of duties Represent the Cancer Services Team and where necessary report regularly on progress, outcomes and issues. Support the Cancer Services strategic direction. Maintain the Cancer Services culture of appreciation, compassion, and continuous improvement. Be prepared to chair the daily Cancer Huddle when cover is required. ***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as Priority and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
