About us Capabilities in Academic Policy Engagement (CAPE) is a partnership between UCL and the universities of Cambridge, Manchester, Northumbria and Nottingham, funded by Research England. It is exploring how to support effective and sustained engagement between academics and policy professionals across the Higher Education sector. UCL Public Policy, based within UCL Research Innovation & Global Engagement, is UCL’s institutional programme to build engagement between researchers and policymakers and enhance the contribution of UCL’s academic expertise to public policy. It supports capacity-building within UCL, undertakes coordination and brokerage across the institution, delivers knowledge exchange and Policy Engagement activities, and strengthens the communication and dissemination of UCL research. About the role CAPE is seeking a Research Fellow to contribute to two key projects. The role will be hosted in the UCL Public Policy team within UCL Research, Innovation and Global Engagement and will work closely with the Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) to co-develop activities and share insights. Exploring the future of academic-Policy Engagement is a project investigating the history development, current state, and potential future of the research-policy ecosystem in the UK. It will specifically look at academic-Policy Engagement and the role of universities in the broader ecosystem. The goal of the project is to explore how the role of universities, funders and policy actors has evolved over time, consider the current landscape, and build a shared understanding of how different actors foresee their role as they continue to improve academic-Policy Engagement and bolster the use of evidence in policymaking over the next 20 years. What are the skills of knowledge mobilisers? is a project investigating knowledge mobilisation roles in universities and other knowledge organisations. The project aims to better understand the nature of these roles, what skills and experiences are required, and the potential career pathways for knowledge mobilisers. The project will inform future thinking by universities, funders and policy stakeholders on the role of knowledge mobilisers in the research-policy ecosystem. This is a full-time role, however, requests for part-time will be also considered. This is a fixed-term contract with an end date of 31 December 2024. About you The successful candidate for this post will have demonstrable experience of and confidence in desk research, including literature reviews of both academic and grey literature. They will also have proven experience of organising and facilitating meetings and events. Extensive experience of stakeholder engagement or knowledge exchange activity is essential for this role. Additionally, they will have strong knowledge of or interest in Policy Engagement.
