About the role

The Capacity Manager is pivotal to the Channel routes profitability. They work closely with data and stakeholders to maximize utilization and yield for both Passenger and freight traffic by optimizing schedule and deck space based on demand and other market dynamics. The successful candidate needs a strong data analysis and stakeholder management profile. They will report to the Operations Director for BU Channel while working closely with the Route Director.

You will work closely with the BU Channel leadership team, Route, Operations, Passenger and Freight Directors to maximize ship utilization for optimal profitability in the combined areas of freight, passenger tickets, and on-board spends. It involves the following tasks.

  • Work with the Operations, Passenger and Freight teams to deliver the optimal mix of passenger traffic for the Dover routes and drive overall Commercial Performance.
  • Closely control, manage, and optimize schedule, vessel configurations and deck space.
  • Make the most efficient use of interoperability agreements.
  • Analyse market data to optimize the sailing schedule and reduce operational costs.
  • Provide regular and accurate forecasts to management, vessels, and fleet.
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of our Passenger and Garage capacity management is at the highest possible standard.

More specifically, you will be responsible for:

  • Liaising closely with the Passenger, Freight and Operations departments to ensure the optimal mix of freight and passenger demand on our Dover routes.
  • Providing/supporting inventory allocation and schedule change recommendations (on a sailing-by-sailing basis)
  • Collating various relevant statistics and producing ad hoc reports - as and when requested
  • Supporting the Channel Directors in the development of departmental reporting and modelling.
  • Working in close collaboration with Operations, Passenger Agency and Freight Sales as part of development objective team(s) to deliver improvements in the Business Unit’s commercial results.

About you

You will have a proven record of delivering high standards of data analysis and business modelling, so we need you to have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, as well as data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau. In addition, you will have the ability to handle pressure and to work calmly in a pressurised environment. You must have outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills as well as the ability to provide and discuss recommendations to and with senior leaders. You will hold at least a degree level qualification in a relevant subject or at least two years experience in a commercial analyst or management role.
