Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Care of Elderly doctor to work with us atEast Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust in William Harvey Hospital.

We are looking for a dedicated doctors ready to work in a Trust striving to make patient experiences better than ever.

Details about the role:

  • Speciality: Care of Elderly
  • Location: East Kent
  • Shift patterns: 08:00-16:00/9:00-17:00 Monday-Friday on-going, part-time hours also available
  • Hours per week: 20-50 hours available
  • Start date: ASAP- no end date, this is on-going the client will accept short term contracts
  • Rate of pay per hour: £100-£120 per hour depending on experience
  • Payment method: PAYE we do NOT facilitate payment through LTD/umbrella companies

You are responsible for the quick diagnosis, management, and non-surgical treatment of various illnesses. With vast medical knowledge at your disposal, you could find yourself working with any patient, regardless of age, gender, and background.

As a Care of Elderly doctor, you can expect to:

  • Conduct thorough medical assessments and evaluations of elderly patients to diagnose and manage age-related health conditions.
  • Develop individualized care plans based on the patient's medical history, current health status, and specific needs.
  • Specialize in the diagnosis and management of common age-related conditions, such as dementia, osteoporosis, arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, considering potential interactions and side effects that are more prevalent in older adults.
  • Regularly review medication regimens and adjust as needed.
  • Focus on preventative healthcare measures to promote healthy aging, including vaccinations, health screenings, and lifestyle recommendations.
  • Assess and manage the mental health and emotional well-being of elderly patients, including addressing issues like depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline.
  • Offer support for patients and families dealing with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.

It’s important that you have a generalist mindset and are prepared to work flexibly in a number of complex ways. You will often be the first point of contact for many new patients entering the hospital, so you will need to be able to adapt and treat new patients quickly. Essentially, your role will be that of a problem-solver: quickly identifying and resolving medical conditions with the right courses of action.

Requirements

Doctors Direct recruit to the highest of NHS standards and all applicants for this role should meet pre-screening requirements before applying.

  • Valid GMC
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Will be required to provide at least 2 referees
  • Minimum of 3 months paid experience in the NHS/UK

About the Trust

East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust operates in five hospitals and several community clinics across Ashford, Canterbury, Folkstone and the surrounding areas.
