Lady Margaret Hall wishes to appoint a 3-year fixed-term Career Development Fellow in English Language and Literature, with a core focus on Old and Middle English. The appointment is available for an outstanding academic at an early stage of their career. It is anticipated that the appointee will take up the post on 1 September 2024. This Fellowship is intended for early-career scholars who wish to further their experience of undergraduate teaching in Old English and Middle English alongside their postdoctoral research. The objectives of the College in making this appointment are to support the Tutorial Fellows in undergraduate provision, and to help strengthen the research profile of the College. The postholder will provide tutorial or class-style teaching to undergraduates of Lady Margaret Hall (or by exchange with other Colleges). They will be required to teach across a range of papers on the undergraduate syllabus for eight hours per week averaged over the three eight-week teaching terms during the appointment. The teaching will be divided between some, though not necessarily all, of the following papers: Prelims Paper 1b: Introduction to English Language. Prelims Paper 2: Early Medieval Literature, c. 650-1350. FHS Course I Paper 2: Literature in English 1350-1550. FHS Course II Paper 1: Literature in English, 650-1100. FHS Course II Paper 2: Medieval English and Related Literatures, 1066-1550. In addition, the postholder may be required to supervise relevant undergraduate dissertations, and to teach Visiting Students if within stint. The postholder will also be expected to set and mark weekly essays, set and mark college exams and participate in undergraduate admissions. They will also take on administrative and pastoral responsibilities, including organising teaching. The salary will be in the range of £36,024 to £39,347 (University Grade 7 scale, stages 1-4) depending on experience and qualifications.
