Our Highland CIAG team is looking for a new team member to join a friendly, supportive and creative team in the Thurso office.

This is a permanent post - we’d love for you to join us!

About the You and the Role

To deliver the role of Careers Adviser at Skills Development Scotland, it is essential that you possess the Career Development Institute (CDI) UK-recognised professional accredited Qualification in Career Development (QCD or its predecessor equivalent) and Post Graduate Diploma in Career Guidance and Development.

In your role as Careers Adviser, you’ll be delivering impartial career guidance, developing career management skills and supporting individuals to plan and manage their career decisions, now and in the future, including services which respond to those facing redundancy.

You’ll be able to demonstrate strong interview, group work and coaching skills with a sound knowledge and understanding of policy, theory and practice in the field of career guidance and you will work with and through a range of partner agencies to engage, inspire, motivate and encourage clients to achieve their full potential.

Come and make an impact you can be proud of!

The Scottish Highlands is really the Scotland of your imagination. With welcoming people, a unique culture, dramatic landscapes, romantic castles and a fascinating history, this is the perfect backdrop for your next adventure. It's no wonder that it was named as one of National Geographic's 'Best of the World' destinations for 2023.

Caithness and Sutherland (North Highland) covers a large geographical area from the UK’s most Northerly point of Dunnet Head, to Cape Wrath on the West coast, down to Lochinver and back over to the East to Dornoch.  There are five Secondary Schools in the area alongside the UHI North, West and Hebrides College which has its main campus in Thurso and two smaller campuses situated at Halkirk and Dornoch.

This is a diverse area consisting of towns, villages, and remote communities, but with many things to celebrate.  The North Coast 500, Dunnet Head Lighthouse, beautiful beaches such as Reiss, Strathy and Sango Bay, as well as Thurso beach, voted into the Top Ten of Surfing Beaches worldwide.  The Flow Country, widely considered the largest area of blanket bog in the world is situated here and is currently awaiting a decision on whether this has gained UNESCO World Heritage Site Status, and a Spaceport is being constructed in NW Sutherland at the A’Mhoine peninsula which could see the launch of up to 12 orbital rockets per year.

There are always things to see and do with community galas and other events.  With many clubs, groups and social scenes to join, including wild swimming, amateur dramatics, arts and heritage to name but a few, there is usually something for everyone.
