Elevation Engineering & Manufacturing’s Skilled Shop Floor Team have been exclusively retained to manage a recruitment campaign for our client, Orchid Orthopedic, based in the heart of Sheffield’s manufacturing community.
Orchid Orthopedic Solutions is a worldwide leader in design and manufacturing for the orthopedic and medical device markets, including joint reconstruction, spine, trauma, sports medicine, extremities and dental. With 10 world-class facilities located around the globe, Orchid continues to provide others an opportunity to live longer, more active lives through their products and services.
Their Sheffield facility, based off the Sheffield Parkway, comprises a Forge, Foundry, and CNC Machining and Finishing processes. It employs approximately 250 people and focuses on joint reconstruction, in particular knee and hip joints.

They currently have a role available within the Finishing Department. Although experience in these areas would be an advantage, they are also looking for enthusiastic individuals from other industries who may have transferrable skills relevant to the role.
They are looking for individuals with experience or a desire to work in the following role;
Cast Finishing Operative
Working hours: 2 Shift Pattern (37.5 hours per week)
Morning Shift: Monday – Friday 6am – 2pm
Afternoon Shift: Monday – Friday 2pm – 10pm
Night Shift: Monday – Friday 10pm – 6am
The role could either be a combination of day shift/night shift or morning shift/afternoon shift.
Hourly Rate: £11.33 - £11.96 p/h + 12.5% / 25% shift allowance when working on 2 shifts, depending on shift pattern.
Please note: This role is working days regular for a period of time before the shift pattern starts. Your working hours on days regular are Monday – Thursday 7am-4pm and Friday 7am – 12 Noon. (39 hours per week).
Overview of the role of a Cast Finishing Operative:
- Using small pencil grinders and other handheld finishing equipment to remove surface defects from the face of the castings
- A keen eye for detail is required for this role to ensure a high-precision finish
- Manual straightening using an aluminium dead hammer to hit the castings into the required dimensions
Requirements for a Cast Finishing Operative:
- Must have experience of working with small handheld tools
- A keen eye for detail
- Must be highly dexterous
