Catering Supervisor

This is an exciting role working for a fantastic Community Interest company, who are a trusted and responsible provider of services to schools. The Catering Supervisor role offers flexibility and variety, plus you will be making a real difference to local primary and secondary schools by ensuring the quality of the food and the service are in line with the company’s high standards, making happy schools and happy children!

THE ROLE

As the new Catering Supervisor, you will manage a catering unit to ensure that the service provision meets the standard set by the company in accordance with the contract in place. Flexibility to travel is required, and your place of work will vary across the schools in the local area and may be subject to change at short notice to provide last minute cover. Your key responsibilities will include:

• The provision of food including preparation, cooking and serving of meals, portion control, including menu planning/amendments (where appropriate) and special diets, allergens and intolerances (where advised)
• Manage food and labour costs and maintain accurate records as required i.e. stock control, food orders, quality assurance checks, and sickness management, taking appropriate action to achieve and maintain targets, under the guidance of the Business Manager.
• Adhere to existing IT working practices and procedures, operate tills (where appropriate) undertake relevant training and development activities and respond to recommendations for new and alternative systems of work.
• To follow safe systems of work, maintain appropriate levels of hygiene and safeguarding in accordance with company policies, The Code of Practice and Food Safety Legislation to maintain a safe environment.
• Collation of monies and preparing for banking. 
• Recruit, train and develop staff identifying strengths and weaknesses, carry out appraisal/performance management, workload allocation and supervision of staff.
• Carry out quality checks, risk assessment and other management activities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Undertake and/or contribute to accident/incident reporting, investigations and implement any outcomes, as appropriate.
 

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience in a catering environment, and you will be flexible to work across a number of locations as required by the company. The ideal Catering Supervisor will have/be:

• NVQ Level 2 in food preparation (or equivalent) essential
• Food Safety Level 2 essential
• A good understanding of allergens and food intolerances essential
• A good standard of Maths and English
• A clear understanding of COSHH and HACCP essential
• Experience of working in a catering environment and supervising staff
• Excellent customer service and people skills
• Knowledge and understanding of School Food Standards and basic health and safety
• Good IT skills 
• Committed to high standards of service, food quality and hygiene
• Reliable, punctual and flexible

• Standard hours of work Monday to Friday 8.30am – 1.30pm
