Overview

This is your chance to be part of something bigger and make a positive impact on our community! Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team at Buckinghamshire Council? We are currently seeking a CCTV Control Room Operator to work in our purpose-built Control Room in High Wycombe.

The service operates every day of the year with staff working a variable shift pattern. The role involves working rotating shifts which include days, evenings, nights as well as weekend working. You will have the opportunity to work overtime. A flexible approach is required, as shifts may change at short notice.

There is a 10% pay increase in addition to the advertised salary for shift work and weekend work may attract an additional weekend working rate.

About us

Buckinghamshire Council is a relatively new organisation that combines the strengths and expertise of the previous five councils in the county to create positive change for local people, communities, and businesses. We are firmly focused on the future and have made a clear commitment to serve residents better and to provide stronger representation for Buckinghamshire, both locally and nationally.

By working with us, you are part of something bigger. From supporting residents who are at the heart of what we do, to shaping our county for now and future generations. Our services are wide-ranging, the opportunities to grow and progress are endless. So from the moment you join us, we’ll support you to be the best you every step of the way.

About the role

Reporting to the CCTV Operations Manager, the operator will be responsible for CCTV operation of car parks, residential and commercial areas; supporting radio communication; traffic control bollard operation; associated administrative tasks and other security-related functions.

As a CCTV Control Room Operator, you will be required to remember details and produce evidential statements. You will deal with day-to-day operations problems and be able to identify and make recommendations for changes and improvements.

The CCTV Centre is subject to regular upgrades and expansion of its services, so a flexible attitude and a willingness to learn new techniques are appreciated. Total confidentiality and sensitivity are needed in this role as the CCTV Control Centre is run in partnership with the Thames Valley Police.

Fixed:

As a ‘fixed’ worker, you’ll spend most of your time in the same location, which will likely be a fixed office or location where your role is performed. Typically, you’ll be based in the same location as the rest of your team, because you provide a particular service from that fixed location or need access to information there.

About you

You’ll have excellent customer care and written and verbal communication as well as the ability to keep accurate records. Previous CCTV monitoring and radio usage experience will be advantageous. Experience in dealing with members of the public over the telephone and good basic computer skills are also required. In addition, you’ll have the ability to remain calm under pressure, be a good team player with a strong commitment to the development of the service. Good observation and listening skills are essential

Holding a Public Space Surveillance CCTV SIA licence is desirable, but full system training will be provided and the successful applicant will be required to obtain the CCTV SIA licence as set out by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

About the Service Area

Buckinghamshire is an exciting place to work and a beautiful place to live. It has a population of more than 500,000 and although generally healthy and wealthy, there are significant public health challenges and inequalities across the county. The Council is now a unitary authority, which enhances our ability to address the broader determinants of health.

Good health is vital to the social and economic success of an area. It contributes to safe, strong, cohesive happy communities, educational attainment and the ability to find and remain in employment. In turn, this reduces demand on children and adult social care services and healthcare services.

Our Public Health service works with communities and colleagues in the NHS, voluntary sector and other partners to co-design approaches, building on the assets of communities to develop solutions and provide equal access to all residents. Some of the ways we do this are by supporting mental health, improving access to healthy, affordable food through a range of growing schemes, and our Active Communities program. We are looking for people who share our values of looking after the wellbeing of our residents and engaging with our communities about delivering the best solutions for them

We recognise and reward you

Hard work and success deserves recognition. That’s why we pride ourselves on the benefits we give our people. We actively encourage a good work-life balance and promote flexible and agile working arrangements. We provide discounts on various Cafés, restaurants, shops and auto enrolment onto our generous Pension Scheme. We also offer a salary sacrifice personal car lease scheme to those who are eligible and have passed their probation period. In addition to the opportunity to gain membership to Costco, we have discounted gym memberships, travel discounts with Arriva and much more.
