Job description

The role The Centre for Study Abroad (previously known as the Global Opportunities Team) supports the university’s internationalisation ambitions by delivering student mobility programmes. Sitting within the outbound team, this role focuses on supporting Bristol students going abroad to study or work for a year or semester as part of their degree programme. This is a fast-paced environment, and you will need to work effectively with students, university departments and partner universities abroad. What will you be doing? You will be responsible for leading on Study Abroad placements outside of Europe, overseeing the full cycle from promotion, application, allocation, pre-departure and placement support. You will be: Advising students on Study Abroad destinations, requirements and application. Organising and delivering information sessions and Study Abroad forums to ensure that students are as informed as possible before they apply. Managing on the application to Study Abroad including allocating 300+ places to different destinations. Running pre-departure sessions for students preparing to go abroad including advising on applications to host universities, cultural differences etc. Supporting students whilst they’re abroad, often acting as a first point of contact for a wide variety of issues and connecting them to support services where necessary (e.g Student Wellbeing Service, Academic department, Student Funding). Working closely with Study Abroad Academic Directors in each department to ensure students are supported from the academic side. Working with a large number of partner universities. Playing a role in reviewing current partnerships and developing new ones. Managing data on student placements and sharing this regularly with Student Loans Company to ensure students receive the correct amount of financial support. Managing the team’s budget log and producing accurate budget reports. Promoting the Centre for Study Abroad at open days and other students recruitment events. Hosting visits with current and prospective university partners. Line-managing an assistant who will support the wider team with a range of administrative tasks. You will regularly spend a day working from our helpdesk in Global Lounge and will provide face-to-face support for students. This role will involve some travel abroad including visits to partner universities and international conferences – approximately 2 – 4 times a year. Within the year’s post, you will support multiple cohorts including students abroad in 2023/2024 and students preparing to go abroad in 2024/2025. In September/ October, you will lead on the Study Abroad application and allocation for students going abroad in 2025/2026. You should apply if You have experience of working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple workstreams. You have strong attention to detail whilst being able to think and plan strategically. You have strong data-handling and analysis skills. You have knowledge of and/or experience within the international student mobility sector. You have strong inter-cultural skills and experience of working with international partners. You have experience of working with students in difficult situations. You work effectively with others in a busy team environment. You have excellent written and communication skills.
