The London Cremation Company plc is Great Britain s oldest cremation authority, and its principal activities are carrying out cremations and providing memorials at its crematoria.
We now have an exciting new opening for a caring and empathetic Chapel Attendant & Cremation Technicianto join our welcoming team.
You will play a key role in operating crematory and chapel services at our beautiful Gravesend site. A huge part of the role is to ensure that funeral services are conducted with the highest levels of care and sensitivity.
A flexible approach to working hours is required, as they will vary according to the needs of the business.

- Competitive starting salary of GBP26,000, rising to GBP29,000 upon completion of FBCA Cremator Technician training, which usually takes around six months (the company will arrange and fund)

Key Responsibilities of the Chapel Attendant & Cremation Technician:
- Operate the process of cremation with professionalism and empathy.
- Ensure that the crematory is maintained as a safe, clean and workable environment.
- Ensure that Data Protection legislation and GDPR is adhered to at all times.
- Fully prepare the chapel for each service including removing and replacing orders of service; checking microphones and the music system; hoover, dust and polish; put out and keep tidy the hymn books and cushions; pick litter; remove and replace religious symbols as required.
- Liaise with other departments, mourners, clergy and funeral directors.
- Escort mourners in and out of the chapel, dealing with enquiries as necessary.
- Ensure the Chapel of Remembrance and the Shrine of Remembrance are cleaned.
- Ensure every weekday morning a litter patrol is carried out to ensure the excellent presentation of the Crematorium.
- Assist the general public at witness dispersals, which involves reading aloud to an audience.
- Carry out non-witness dispersals of cremated remains.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Experience of working in either bereavement, care or a customer service environment.
- The ability to deal with the public under stressful and emotive situations.
- Continuously striving for exceptional customer service.
- Experience of using computer packages effectively.
- Ability to follow procedures methodically and professionally and to record accurate records.
- The confidence and ability to read aloud to an audience.
- The ability to deal effectively with people from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- May require some manual handling and therefore a good level of physical fitness is required.
