Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Character Artist to join us here at nDreams Studio in Farnborough, working on our upcoming VR game titles.

As a Character Artist you will be responsible for the interpretation, creation and refinement of high-end characters and props, working collaboratively in cross functional teams to deliver visual treatments for the team. With a focus on style, characterisation, deformation and technical excellence, help build our creative environment that fosters self-improvement and ownership, alongside establishing pipelines and processes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development of character concepts to ensure they meet the artistic, narrative and technical requirements of the game.
  • Faithfully create characters that advance the artistic vision of the game.
  • Work alongside production to deliver a schedule of work on time. Highly organized and able to manage time effectively.
  • Become a guardian of quality with well balanced production sensibilities to ensure scenarios for success.

Requirements

Who Are We Looking For?

Essential capabilities

  • An accomplished Character Artist with proven experience in producing AAA characters for games.
  • The ability to interpret 2D concepts and reference boards into high quality 3D real-time character art.
  • The ability to understand game genres and art styles and create believable characters that could inhabit those worlds.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard project management tools and source control software.
  • Highly skilled in sculpting, real-time modeling and material creation.
  • Experience in or demonstrable transferrable skills to work in Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter and Unreal.
  • Positive with a can-do attitude, able to adapt based on feedback.

Desired experience

  • 2-3 years game development experience.
  • An aptitude to apply yourself to new technologies.
  • Demonstrable PBR material generation.
  • Experience in rigging and skinning characters that deform effectively.

The hybrid role is based out of our HQ in Farnborough, UK, but with a unique Flex+ policy that incorporates flexible working between home and office to promote a healthy work/life balance. The studio is easily accessible and within a commutable distance of London and Guildford.

The salary range for this role is from £30,000 to £42,000 per annum, depending on experience.
