As we continue to grow, we are seeking a talented and dedicated Chef Manager to lead our school catering team.
This is a great TERM TIME ONLY opportunity for an experienced Chef Manager to join us and oversee our catering offering in a Secondary School kitchen, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals to our students and staff. The successful candidate will be responsible for menu planning, food preparation, and managing kitchen operations in compliance with relevant health and safety standards as well as management of the small team.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Menu Planning and Development, kitchen management, quality assurance, client care/customer service and team leadership/ day to day management of the kitchen team.
- Create well-balanced and nutritious menus that cater to the dietary needs of students and staff.
- Introduce innovative and diverse food options to enhance the overall dining experience.
- Supervise kitchen staff, providing guidance and support to ensure a smooth operation.
- Coordinate domestic duties and cleaning programmes associated with food production and service, including maintainable of equipment and appropriate food storage, stock control
- Monitor inventory, order supplies, and manage kitchen and financial records effectively.
- Maintain high standards of food quality and presentation.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety regulations.
- Foster a positive dining experience for students and staff.
- Address feedback and make adjustments to meet the evolving tastes and preferences of the school community.
- Lead by example, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Provide training and development opportunities for kitchen staff.

To be successful, the right candidate for this role will have:
- Relevant vocational qualification(s) such as City & Guilds 706 1 & 2 in Food Preparation & cookery or NVQ equivalent.
- Food Safety & Hygiene Level 2 minimum
- Allergen Awareness
- English and Maths qualification
- Prior experience operating at Head Chef level or similar, within contract catering, canteen or restaurant environment.
- Proven track record for delivering great food as well as developing food offers through innovation and developing their teams.
- Strong leadership skills and be passionate about high delivering quality catering and excellent service
- A dynamic, forward thinking approach with an ability to communicate at all levels
- Great organisational skills, and ability to thrive when working in a busy environment
- Sound knowledge of legislation, best practice and industry standards
- Demonstrates financial and commercial acumen
- Excellent food preparation and production skills
- Ability to develop effective, supportive and positive working relationships.
- A customer and solutions focused approach
- Digital skills (use of on site PDA's, baility to use basic basic microsoft packages an advantage).
Working arrangements:
- 35 hours per week, TERM TIME ONLY
- Location: Secondary School based on the board of Dagenham & Ilford, Essex.

Starting at £16.37 per hour + benefits
