The purpose of the Chemical Process Operator is to maintain constant production and supply the print and spray processes with correctly washed and treated cans, whilst maintaining can mobility and satisfying the quality requirements of the ISO 9002 system.
Shift Pattern
You will work on a Continental Based Shift Rota, attending 2 x 12-hour days followed by 2 x 12-hour nights, then 4 days off. After a pattern of five of these shifts you have 14 days off and we also give you 18 days off in the summer.
This equates to 144 rostered shifts per year and an outstanding work/life balance!
- A salary of £43,602 to £48,343 including shift premium, dependant on experience and qualifications

Main Responsibilities
Washers
- Conduct daily checks, using standard laboratory equipment
- Conduct conductivity checks
- Add ridolene to pre-mix tank
- Check cans on turnover for cleanliness and damage, feed fallen cans from transfer and turnover back into infeed, removing damaged or stained cans
- Conduct running repairs and adjustments to maintain equipment within specified operating parameters
- Perform planned maintenance as per schedule
Water Treatment
- Conduct daily and weekly checks
- Replace cartridge filters
- Back wash carbon filters
- Check, clean and maintain ultraviolet filter quartz sleeves and lamps
- Maintain acid, caustic and effluent pumps, valves, and pipework, as well as pH probes
- Assist in unloading of bulk tankers of acid, caustic, or lubricants
Filtration System
- Conduct daily and weekly checks
- Monitor re-cycles of the filtration system and cut-off spent paper
- Clean strainers on pump inlets
- Log oil usage on graphs.
- Ensure bactron bulk tank is at correct level
- Conduct running repairs as required
- Perform planned maintenance as per schedule
Quality
- Check coolant concentration and pH
- Test for moulds or bacterial growth, and shock dose with Bactron B6 if excess levels are identified
- Check dome reversals on all body makers
- Isolate coil rejected on the line, collect samples and complete necessary paperwork
- Check amount of biocide in coolant
- Assist in trials and installation/commissioning of equipment and size changeovers, as directed by Shift Leaders
- Work flexibly in any work area as far as safety and capability allows
