Chief Geotechnical / Technical Director

My client is seeking an accomplished and proactive Chief Geotechnical Engineer/Technical Director to join their Manchester offices. This role is pivotal in bolstering their team to accommodate the escalating workload and remarkable array of esteemed geotechnical projects, both domestically and abroad.

The expansion of this team is imperative to cater to the rising needs of their clients, particularly within the infrastructure sector-namely rail, highways, and water-and the energy sector. This includes pivotal areas such as carbon capture and storage, renewable energy sources like wind, tidal, and hydropower, as well as initiatives in low-carbon engineering and nuclear power.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Cultivating a network of business connections to bolster the advancement of ground engineering.
  • Spearheading the geotechnical team's efforts in strategic bidding endeavors.
  • - Overseeing the geotechnical team's involvement in significant projects across various sectors such as rail, highway, maritime, tunnelling, building, and land regeneration
  • Serving as a representative for AtkinsR alis at various industry gatherings.
  • Ensuring seamless integration of the team with our technical expertise and market leadership.
  • Providing guidance and support to junior team members.
  • Effectively managing, inspiring, coaching, and advancing professional staff.
  • Initiating and overseeing developmental projects.

Candidates should possess:

  • Extensive expertise in sectors like highways, rail, energy, or water geotechnics.
  • A robust educational background with a relevant degree (preferably MSc or equivalent).
  • Chartered status.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Chief Geotechnical Engineer/Technical Director within a dynamic engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proficiency in project management, encompassing client relations, project planning, and commercial oversight.
  • Proven track record in geotechnical design.
  • Application of CDM Regulations within design and ground investigation contexts.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and technical abilities, along with leadership skills to guide geotechnical design teams.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in client interactions.
  • Solid commercial acumen evidenced by successful project negotiations and management.
  • Proficiency in producing accurate and well-structured reports.
  • Flexibility to undertake short-term travel assignments both domestically and internationally.
  • Possession of a valid UK driver's license.
