Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Leicester Cathedral is looking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer (COO), with three main areas of responsibility and oversight:

• Cathedral operations
• Commercial activities and income generation
• Visitor experience

The COO will work with the Dean and Chapter (i.e. the board of trustees) to oversee delivery of strategic priorities, and the administration and operational management of Leicester Cathedral across a variety of functions. They will manage the business and operations of the Cathedral.

Leicester Cathedral has been through a period of great change with the Cathedral building being closed for major development works as part of the Leicester Cathedral Revealed (LCR) project. The Cathedral re-opened for a 'soft launch' in November 2023, and a 'hard launch' of the new Heritage and Learning Centre in summer 2024 will incorporate an exciting programme of events and activities alongside services and worship. The COO is responsible for the full delivery of this National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project.

As Leicester Cathedral enters the next phase of its life, the new COO will bring a breadth and depth of strategic and operational leadership experience across a range of functions in a complex, multifaceted and challenging environment.

The ideal candidate will be pivotal to the success of the Cathedral taking a more prominent place in the public square and will:

• Have the ability to engage, enthuse and influence staff, colleagues and external stakeholders and quickly build strong and effective working relationships
• Be a skilful strategic operator, able to command respect at all levels and across stakeholders
• Be goal oriented, constantly on the lookout for smarter ways of working and able to work at pace
• Be imaginative, creative and a problem solver
• Be commercially adept.
• Be fully committed to the work and mission of the Cathedral.
