Job summary

The Sherwood Forest Pharmacy Department is entering an exciting year with a new automation unit at the KMH site and the output of the 'Future Pharmacy Programme', a trust-wide redesign of Pharmacy Services. The aim of the Future Pharmacy Programme is to deliver ward-based clinical pharmacy services to as many areas as possible within 2024. Part of this programme will involve a redesign of the senior leadership structure within the department during the spring/summer of 2024.

We are looking for a dynamic, inspirational and collaborative leader to represent the department internally and externally and to continue to mould the department to be fit for the future. The successful applicant will have experience at Deputy Chief Pharmacist level and will embody the kind, inclusive and caring values of the trust and the CSTO Division.

The Chief Pharmacist will work closely with the divisional team and report to the divisional Clinical Chair for all operational aspects of the pharmacy department with responsibility to the Medical Director for aspects of Medicine Safety and Medicines Optimisation.

Main duties of the job
  • The Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director for Medicines Optimisation takes responsibility for the leadership and management of all aspects of Pharmacy services across the Trust.
  • The Chief Pharmacist is directly accountable to the Executive Medical Director for all aspects of Medicines Optimisation and has corporate accountability undertaking the statutory role of Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer (CDAO) for the Trust.
  • The Chief Pharmacist has corporate responsibility for provision of strategic, clinical and professional leadership on the safe, effective and cost-effective use of medicines and pharmacy services. This includes working closely with healthcare partners to support the needs of patients and stakeholders across the whole health economy.
  • Is required to be the 'Superintendent Pharmacist' and associated responsibilities as detailed by the GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) for any registered site.
  • Is responsible for compliance with other legally regulated activities registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)
