Job description

We are looking for a Child Development Worker to join our Health Visiting Service in Southwark and Lambeth
The ideal applicant would have qualification in child care/Child Development/nursery nurse.
Our Health Visiting service is supported by a skill mix team that include innovative support services such as the Early Intervention Health Visiting Service, who support our most complex families. Our Early Start Service, a dedicated resource working closely with Health Visiting Service to provide one-to-one support and advice to families who need additional support.
The post holder will work as a member of the Health Visiting Team. The post holder will carry out clinical, health promotion and clerical duties in a variety of settings in order to assist with the provision of a responsive Health Visiting service. The post holder will deliver a high quality standard of care under the leadership of the Health Visitor.
Although you will be working within a primary Health Visiting locality, this role requires you to be able to work in other sites within and across the two boroughs (Lambeth and Southwark) in the Trust. You will need to be able to travel within, and able to arrive for the start of the working day within these sites. This requirement will be driven by the needs of the service.

Professional / Clinical responsibilities
  • To carry out child health promotion competently on children under 5 years of age as delegated by the Health Visitor
  • To conduct routine developmental reviews with children and their families both at home and in other suitable settings
  • To undertake home visiting as delegated by the Health Visitor and to give feedback on observations made and issues identified during home visits e.g.
  • Speech and language delay, behaviour problems and any other issues or concerns identified within the family and to make the appropriate necessary referral
  • To assist the Health Visitor in child health clinics as required
  • To accompany the Health Visitor if required on a home visit, and assist in delivery of care as appropriate
  • To adhere to Guy’s & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust child protection policies and procedures
  • To communicate effectively with other members of the Health Visiting team, other health professionals and clients as required
  • To promote play and learning through individual play sessions with child and parents to assist appropriate development in identified children
  • To promote prevention of accidents in the home and promote safe parenting
  • To participate and attend meetings as required
