Salary An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team at Health in Mind, Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We are a dynamic team who enjoy providing a timely and effective service to our children and families. We work closely with different professions within the hospital, in creative ways across inpatient and outpatient settings in the hospital. The post holder will work alongside a supportive team of highly specialist Psychologists and Liaison Psychiatrist.
The successful candidate will be skilled in the delivery of a range of evidence-based, low-intensity interventions in accordance with NICE guidelines to patients presenting with anxiety and low mood, impacting on, or due to, their physical health condition. The range of interventions will include both individual and group work, and the post holder will need to be competent in delivering interventions using a variety of communication mediums, such as telephone and virtual work and face-to-face activities. The successful candidate will manage an independent caseload of paediatric patients and their families who require emotional support as a result of living with a health condition under supervision from a qualified Psychologist. We are advocates of a healthy work-life balance and so there are options for flexible working, or compressed hours, with one day working from home.

You will be working directly with patients aged 6 and above and their parents. You may work jointly with play specialists, youth workers, AHPs and consult our liaison psychiatrist as required. You will receive weekly supervision from a qualified highly specialist clinical psychologist. The team have a reputation of providing informal supervision and senior members being available onsite if practitioners should require support with a particular patient.
The post holder will deliver brief sessions of therapy of 6 sessions of less to a child or young person, whilst involving the parent to ensure the skills and strategies are embedded int heir everyday life. Some liaison and feedback via email summaries or written reports will supplement the sessions. They will deliver group interventions alongside qualified or trainee psychologists and assistant psychologists. The postholder will provide short interventive consultations (1-2 sessions) to guide patients to appropriate self-help resources, interventions and services as required.
