Locum Childcare in-house Advocate – London – up to £60 per hour – Hybrid Working

Job Title: Locum Childcare in-house Advocate

Location: London - Hybrid Working of 2 days per week office attendance + Court attendance required

Salary: Up to £60 umbrella per hour dependent upon experience

Venn Group’s specialist legal recruitment team have teamed up with a London based Local Authority in their search for a Locum Childcare in-house Advocate. This role offers the chance to deliver expert advocacy and legal advice in family court, focusing on child care law and related areas for both children and adults.

The role shall be for a period of 3 months with the option of a rolling contract dependent upon performance, assessed on a case-by-case basis. This role requires office presence of two days a week as well as court attendance.

The ideal candidate will be either Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx with a strong track record of working within Local Government within the Childcare legal department with advocacy experience.

Duties shall include:

1. 1.       Court Representation: Act on behalf of the council in court, safeguarding its interests in child protection cases and other relevant legal areas, even at short notice or outside regular hours. Collaborate with team members to ensure thorough preparation and presentation of cases
2. 2.       Brief Management: Receive instructions from team members for court representation, handle hearings at short notice, and manage a small caseload of related matters as directed by the Head of the Team
3. 3.       Document Preparation: Prepare and process all relevant matters for team proceedings, including evaluating evidence, drafting positions statements, case summaries, threshold documents, orders, and other court-required documents.
4. 4.       Stakeholder Liaison: Liaise regularly with government departments, council departments, legal service sections, external agencies, courts, external solicitors, barristers, and experts on various aspects of team work, establishing and reviewing processing procedures.
5. 5.       Professional Support and Training: Provide professional support, including mentoring and training. Deliver training to other officers in the council on child care law, court room skills, and etiquette. Prepare reports or legal concurrent for Council, the Executive, Committees, and Sub-Committees.

This role comes with an hourly rate of up to £60 umbrella per hour dependent upon experience. . Applications from people with relevant Local Government experienced are welcomed even if the job specification does not align entirely with your experience
