Childline Counsellor

Every childhood is worth fighting for. This is our belief. It drives us. And it's why our Services team never stop sharing our learning, information, advice and support with everyone who needs it.

Childline Counsellors provide a safe and effective listening service by phone, email and live 1-2-1 chat for children and young people who need someone to talk to.

You will work alongside supervisors, volunteers and staff counsellors ensuring that a quality response is given to every child or young person who contacts Childline.

We are looking for people who have the passion and ability to work with children and young people to explore their feelings and options using a range of helping strategies and the Childline counselling model.

About you:

  • Confident working independently and team setting
  • Committed to protecting and enhancing the lives of children and young people
  • Positively approach applying feedback in action and following guidence to achieve a high standard of practise
  • Proven ability to engage with children and young people presenting with a wide range of issues
  • Have demonstratable up to date knowledge of child protection systems, best practice, research and legislation
  • Able to recognise indicators of child protection risk.

The staff counsellor shift pattern is set to meet service need and rotates fortnightly - Friday/Saturday/Sunday & Thursday/Friday/Saturday.

Shifts are 17:30-01:30 for 3 shifts per week, (7 hours in the live environment with a 60-minute unpaid break) 2 hours on one shift is allocated to admin each week.
